“Liquid fuel missile engines exploding do not give off radiation, and we know that the Russians are working on some kind of nuclear propulsion for a cruise missile,” said Ankit Panda, an adjunct senior fellow with the Federation of American Scientists.

U.S.-based experts suspect Russia blast involved nuclear-powered missile

Perhaps just as likely is that it was some normal rocket that had some device with a radioisotope electric generator on board

"What if I took a swim in a typical spent nuclear fuel pool? Would I need to dive to actually experience a fatal amount of radiation? How long could I stay safely at the surface?"

"You may actually receive a lower dose of radiation treading water in a spent fuel pool than walking around on the street."

Came across this question/answer the other day and remembered how often this question came up for tours. Also, the answer at the end made me LOL.

I'm sipping from my morning coffee mug, which I couldn't resist buying, that says "3.6 Roentgen, not great not terrible" as I'm reading your link.
I'm guessing that cup helps to keep your coffee warmer for a longer period of time..?? :wink :devil

Today is TMI-1s last day of power generation. PA will drop from the US #2 spot for nuclear generation and replace carbon free generation with natural gas and coal. Sad.
