Curious only to put the speed and accelleration into perspective. If you have had an "encounter" of any kind that surprised you let me know.

I'm interested in the car you genuinely thought your equal or faster that you pulled away from. Or even cars others think that could keep up with you but really can't (or didn't).

As an example, when I'm not running my E85 tune I don't pull away from 335i's as easily. They are faster than they look. Newer G37's always assume they can beat me. Other than my exhaust note I suppose they wouldn't know. Their surprised look is priceless.

Mods, if this is in the wrong section please move it.

Beat down a Drop Top Cobra last night (99-03). First spring night where cars are out cruising and first kill of the year... Well 3 separate kills. 2 Stop light and 1 roll. Guy pulls in the Gas Station behind me and they ask "What Kind of car is that?" I reply an SS and the say "An SS What?"

So I said a 2014 G8 GXP! lol... they got the idea real quick.

Wasn't surprised at all. Just sharing.

I can't yet afford my SS so I'm just hangin' out.

I am driving a 2008 Subaru Legacy Spec-B no where near stock. I'm getting a little tired of the finicky nature of a modified turbo car. Although it is an absolute blast to drive. On E85 I'm putting down a tic over 400 whp, it's 500# less! and AWD. Never having owned a v8 I think the SS will suit me just fine. Final purchase decision may come by the end of summer when the 2015's arrive.

depending on traffic an old lady in a prius can take you and then laugh at you when you're filling up for $80...pick your battles!
Didn't know it was a battle of mpg's ... The Z passes pretty much everything but a gas station for sure. When I'm pushing it, the mpg is around 8, not bad for around 625bhp. It's the price you pay for having fun !!!

A Cadillac ATS pulled up next to me at a red light and I was just chilling. I mean the dude had what appeared to be a small girl in his car (tinted windows hard to see). Perhaps his daughter? Anyway, I was not expecting him to gun it but alas he did. I just had to gun it back and sure enough about 60mph, I caught up. I think those things are rated 0-60 in 5.6 secs so not too slow by any means, but yeah, if you're not expecting it then it takes a bit to catch up. Otherwise I'd have dusted him.

Have pulled up next to several Dodge Challengers SRTs but they don't want none :( in all honesty I know they are some quick boats.

I beat an SRT8 sedan to 110 when I first got my car and this guy was really upset. He followed me for another 2 miles wanting to go again. Once was enough for me and he just couldn't stand it. I thought he was going to follow me all the way home.
Be carefull of the weird personalities out there. If I get a hint he or she doesn't have it somewhat together then I don't bother. It can get ugly real fast.

I have to say though. Playing tag with careful intelligent maneuvers is a blast. By carefull I mean not cutting anyone off and using your signals. Guys if you claim to be a good driver (and we all do...) surprise, you just aren't if you can't also do all you should do AND drive. People need to know which lane you are about to move into period.

There has been a couple of nasty road rage incidents recently in my area. Doesn't take much to set the lunies off; and there are lots of them. Once behind me at a red light I had a guy screaming, cursing, beating the steering wheel and just going ballistic because I stopped for the red light !!! Then he tried to run me off the road in my Yukon but I saw it coming evaded his maneuver letting him get in front of me which got him even hotter so he tried a couple "brake checks" on me but failed 'cause I saw that coming!. Went up to the barracks and gave one of my buddies his plate they took care of him a couple days later so he had no idea who complained 'cause his license and registration had been suspended and there were bench warrants out on him from months before for road rage stuff. And you have to remember they may be straddling the edge enough to use the weapon they may be packing. That new magnum Judge looks like a good personal protection device.

Gotta be careful who you mess with.

I think I'd be angry too if my sports coupe got beat by a normal looking family sedan (with a car seat installed)

p.s.-no babies in the car when running it hard...ever.

Had an E39 BMW M5 noticeably grilling the old SS badge at a light. The straight opened up and he let it eat, I followed up with some WOT, to my suprize, I only pulled a fender. (stock at the time, only mod was baby seat ^ no baby. ;))

That is the only time so far where my face was like. -> :O

Car is almost 15 years old. Had to google that hoe when I got home. lmao.

Always liked those and to think you can pick one up for $25k. Before someone chimes in on reliability go search the net and you'll be surprised. They aren't too bad.

They're still a **** fast car. Most reviews of the SS and the old G8 mention how similar in performance and handling they are to the old E39 M5. Which is a good thing, since the E39 M5 may be the high water mark in sports sedans when balance, power, size, ride quality, and handling are all factored in.

The E60 generation M5 with the 5.0L V10 are absolute animals up top. I used to really enjoy the few occasions I had to drive those cars, all through 1st and 2nd gear they weren't that impressive, but get into 3rd and 4th once up to highway speeds..... holy ****.

Not really a surprise, but I ran into a friend of mine in Mexico today. He has an Evo VIII RS with a TBE and tune. I gave him the hit and went WOT and pulled him quite easily and let off once I had two car lengths on him - this was from around a 40mph roll.

Actually, a little known fact was that the previous Commodore in HSV GTS guise was a better handler, better balance, and better powered than the mighty E39 (although they did bench marked and aimed for E39). The thing that the GTS lacked was subtlety, refinement, and a decent transmission of the BMW (GM let them down again, although HSV disregarded GM and went to Callaway to stuff a better engine than the ZO6). The HSV GTS was quite a bit faster than the E39 around the Nurburgring.
