I just now tell people who ask, "Yeah its a Malibu SS. the SS package gave it Brembos and a ecoboosted 4 cylinder."
Try telling them it's the new Silverado Sedan, SS sometime. You'd be amazed how many people believe you. Then again, I read the other day that 7% of adults actually believe that chocolate milk comes from brown cows, so I might just run across more idiots than most.

[Scene: QT Mart gas pumps]

Him: "Wow, the new Malibu looks great!"
Me: "Thanks, man! I'm really liking it!"
*I glance over at his Lexus ES350, raise eyebrow*
Me: (While getting in my car) "You keep that Camry shiny now!"
*Press start, listen to perf mode come alive and settle into it's lumpy burble as I put my shades on then pull away from pump*
That there is funny as ****.

Personally. I tell them it's a Holden. Nobody knows what that is so I give them the readers digest version. GM made in Australia for only 3 years, this being the last. Corvette engine. BIG SMILE. :devil

Someone new to autocross came up to my car and wanted a ride at our 9/11 event. I said sure, c'mon just before he said, "I want to compare this Malibu to my '16 Malibu." Before I had a chance to explain to him what the car was, everyone else in grid spoke up and educated him. I still let him ride, and after, he agreed that the SS was no Malibu. :grin
I embrace this car as a Malibu with glasspacks.

Getting 93 octane is impossible in Kalifornia so when I'm in the area of Sonoma Raceway I stop for fuel. They have 91,96,100,105, and 115 all without ethanol (I believe as it was not listed on the pump.) I fill with a 50/50 blend of 91 $3.69 and 96 $7.99 and the car really runs good and gets good (HAHAHAHA) mileage. Anyway, last night was Wednesday Night Drags and Drifting. All you could sense was horses screaming, tires burning, smoke in the air, and people having a lot of fun. Behind me I hear, " nice car." I respond "thanks" as I turn to see a Unicorn. White Holden out playing with the boys. His car marked for participation, he drives away, two kids on a mini bike yell, "nice car!" I'm going back next week , taking the whole family, just to watch the ongoings.

On the way home tonight, I see a nice Camero coming up from behind. I can tell the driver is checking out my SS (NEVER see them in town) so I pull to the right lane to give him a chance to come parallel. An old guy just like me. He nods a sense of approval as he hits the throttle to share his Chevy. I turned it from Tour to Perf earlier when I saw him so when I downshifted to second and passed him, I could share with him.

900 miles on the odo but good times are happening.

900 miles here too. Get your oil changed yet?

I have not met anyone that has known what the car is, but no one has called it a Malibu. Anyone that looks at it for more than a couple seconds seem to know something is different about that car, espessaly if it's running. I do get ask "what car is that" pretty often. My son says it looks, and sounds, way too aggressive from the rear to not know something is going on with that car. And the rear end is all he see's when he's in another car....

Folks it's like so many other cars: a giant suppository. Suck it up and deal with the fact that it's not a good looking car. You drive it for the stick, the engine and the sound, among others. Those who drive it for its looks simply have low standards, and there's nothing wrong with that.

You sir, are are a tasteless loon....
Yup. I kinda like the looks of this suppository. The sounds and acceleration are like no suppository I've ever................oh too much information.

I ran into the first person that knew what it was over the weekend. It was very pleasant to have a conversion about what a gem it is, and a fantastic purchase. "SS what" is getting really old. Sleeper FTW

had mine at a car show 4th of July... couple sitting next to me were discussing ( I wasn't paying much attention at 1st ) She... I think it's a Malibu... he... no, I think it's an Impala... she got up to walk around it... I said, well you're both close... :) We ended up discussing what it was, & both of them looking it over pretty good... actually had many more lookers this week than in previous shows... Guessing because the Rotofab intake & filter caught their eye 1st

Most people I've talked to know what the car is, but I've had a couple people call it a Malibu. First time was last year at the NYS Fair when I saw a couple walking towards me from about 20' or so away as I was driving towards them. The wife must have liked the jungle green paint and asked her husband what kind of car that was...I saw him mouth the words to her "it's the new Malibu". I chuckled. The second time happened just a few weeks ago when I was talking with a younger guy in his early 20's who seemed like a car guy (we were talking about EVO's, STI's, and Skylines, so in his defense he likely was more a Japanese import guy). After talking about older Nissans he asks me about my car "that's the new Malibu SS right?" I informed him of what it really is (Holden Commodore imported here) which really didn't look like it registered until I said LS3 and rear wheel drive...then his eyes lit up. It really is sort of a travesty that Chevrolet didn't make more of an attempt to advertise/market these cars, but I totally understand their likely reasons for not doing so. I'm just glad GM let us have them over here, so I'll just deal with the Malibu SS comments and enjoy the ride.

It throws people like mad when you've added a CAM and changed the logos. They have no point of reference. It's fun. Sometimes I say it's a Chevy, sometimes a Holden and sometimes I just say I don't know - it's not my car. Lol
