Just moved over from the Malibu forum. The LTZ 4 cylinder turbo was fun but this SS is a beast. Picked it up 8 Feb. The dealer called me Friday night and said one just came in to stop by in the morning. I was the first one there and drove it home that night. This is the second SS I missed the first one, but it was black so no big deal. They have another black one coming in in two months. So far I have put white reflective film on the bowties (makes them look like they are lights at night) and painted the rear calipers and rusting disk with silver high temp caliper paint. It's my wifes car  so mods will be few if any.

Whose idea was it to get the SS?
If it was your wife, you have one cool wife!
Funny you should say this -- that's exactly the way it is with ours. Wife wants one and I'm not grumbling! When she said it back in October I just picked up the phone and called my salesman. LOL :)

Thanks for the warm welcome.

1. It came with the sunroof and full size spare.
2. My idea for the SS we traded in her 2003 Monte Carlo SS for the Malibu LTZ and she really was not happy with it so I talked up the SS. The Impala was too big and the SS is the right size. She rode her own Harley for several years, so yes she is cool.
3. We love the BMW RT we have ridden to Maine and to Key West on it from VA Beach nice ride for long distances.
4. I was in the Army and now I am working for a contractor designing computer networks for the aircraft carriers.

Now about the Bowties. The reflective material comes in all colors including black. Go to your local sign or graphics shop and buy a strip for a few bucks. Makes a big difference from the boring gold bowtie. I think that it should have been an SS like the old muscle cars of yesterday.

Here are a couple pictures of the bowties lit up at night with the flash of the camera.

Wow that looks so good! Nice job. Do you have any idea how the reflective black would look on a PBM?

How did you go about cutting out the bowtie and installing it? Would you be able to give some more details.

Love your car!

I went to a nearby graphic shop and asked if they had a piece of reflective white film he could sell me. He had a piece of scrap about 8” wide and 1 ½ ‘long. He sold it to me for $5.00. I cut out a piece just a little larger than the entire bowtie. Removed the paper backing started at one end of the bowtie with a hard plastic squeegee pressed the film down onto the bowtie. There is a definite indentation between the plastic and the chrome. With the edge of the squeegee I pushed the film down into the indentation, then used a razor and carefully cut between the plastic and the chrome. There is enough room for the razor blade to go between the plastic and the chrome. Go slow and make sure it is warm so the film is soft and pliable. With the weather you have been having I guess for you in Central Illinois that will be sometime this July unless you have a nice heated garage.
The films come in all colors you should have no problems matching the color of the car. The black film lights up just like the white if you wanted to go that way. If not just get plane black film. It is real easy to do if you have ever put decals or pinstripes on a car. I took me about 10 minutes to do one bowtie. If you do not have a squeegee, ask them at the graphics shop for one. They use them for applying the film. On a difficulty scale from 1 to 10 this is a 2 if you get the film pushed down into the space between the plastic and chrome.
