Hey guys, SS has been down nearly 6 months since having 2 pistons turn into confetti in the intake. Now I have a new block with new parts coming in. I have a forged 427 coming from TSP, Frankenstein Monster heads, kooks 2 in LTH into 3in Solo race catback, TSP cam, ported/rod mod intake, 1000cc FIC injectors on e85. There's tons of other stuff I got like underdrive pulley, Circle D lighter flexplate, circle d stall. Hopefully I'll have it all in by this December. It'll be interesting to see how much HP I'll put down and if I'll be needed extra pump running on E. Just sharing thoughts and my build. I was running 450rwhp on my stock block.

Looking forward to a progress report once your build is in.
Building a true 427 is my dream as well. ✌

Any idea what caused the first failure?

Will definitely be watching for upcoming LS porn.
As of now I have not found the culprit. I will be getting my injectors to get checked out if it leaned out, going to drain the pan to see if I have milky oil but my theory is I was low on oil and I took a fast turn then punched the son of a gun and likely spun a main bearing. I'm going to have to disassemble it from underneath anyways as the engine is seized and have no way of turning engine over to disconnect flexplate to the converter. Many pics will be logged and shared. Remember, just bc you don't leak oil doesn't mean it won't disappear any other way! I should have been checking my oil. But will keep posted.

Yes sir. At the moment I'm waiting on the Frankenstein heads. Called em and they said it should ship out this Friday. Then I'll measure for pushrods, check PTV clearance and get some proper head gaskets. I believe that's all I'm missing to start putting stuff together. Will probably need axles or stronger diff once it's all sorted out. 😬

Also, for the record my SS had 98,xxx miles upon failure. I had a new cam and was about to go boosted at 100k but somehow the LS3 knew about it and had other plans. Will stay N/A for now although TSP told me I'm safe to go boosted you to 15psi. Time will tell.

Yea you're right. Been doing some hw on diffs. And while the Camaro SS diff is stronger and a remove/replace item, I'd like to play it extra safe with the ZL1 which requires relocation of the parking brake and clearance issues that will need to be addressed.

How did you manage to turn a reasonably robust engine into confetti?
