So, I drove the car from NorCal to SoCal on Sunday and back on Monday, which gave me some time to fiddle with this and that.... THE most frustrating thing I encountered was the Nav, and the inability to enter certain data while the car is moving (through the touchscreen). I understand WHY they did it, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating and it certainly decreases the usefulness of it.

The scenario was that I had my home address programmed in but decided along the drive that I wanted to have dinner at Mo's BBQ in San Luis Obispo. There is no apparent way to make this change while you are underway (using the touchscreen). This seems silly--especially when you think about gasoline stops. I might have Las Vegas programmed in as my destination but I know that I'm going to want to get gas and probably eat in Barstow. There just does not seem to be a good way to do this, WITHOUT using the voice commands--especially well ahead of time. I refuse to think that pulling over on the side of the freeway or even pulling off an exit just to come to a stop just to enter some data into the nav is a good thing. Granted, I understand, fiddling with the touchscreen at 70 miles per hour isn't ideal, either, but it just doesn't seem like helpful design.

Now, it took me at least 30 to 45 minutes, but I WAS actually finally able to use voice commands to add a Waypoint for Mo's on my drive home, and that was pretty cool, but in that 30 to 45 minute period, I shouted a lot of words at the car that it didn't seem to recognize :D

Anyway, I guess that I'm just rambling/venting, so thanks for hearing me out. I guess there are folks who sell a MyLink Bypass wire or something that allows you to enter data while moving but I think that it might be vehicle-specific? Doubt that there is anything available for the SS....

I totally understand, I have used a number of 4 letter words it does not recognize at various times.

Does anyone with an iPhone use Siri through MyLink? I thought I read/ saw that this is possible but the owners manual is vague and I haven't done it yet. The texts and all that too. Also, am I missing something, or can we not ask for points of interest with the Nav? Like, if I'm driving around and I am in the mood for Wendy's, can I say a command to pull up the closest Wendy's on the Nav? Wishful thinking?

I was hoping that "voice command" worked better than that. I say that because I'll be coming out of my Infiniti that works pretty good compared to what I've seen from GM...I'm sorry...I mean the car is a 2002. You do have to use some words close to what you really want, but, it ain't stupid...like the one that was in my Cadillac.

I figured out Siri, hold the talk button on the steering wheel for a couple seconds. It was hidden in the owners manual. Got the texts working, a bit clunky but better than nothing.

So your issue with using a finger to update NAV while in motion is simple to solve if you have a smart phone. Use the OnStar app to look for the location and then send the destination to your car. Another thing you could of done if you don't like the voice command is to just call OnStar. Since we all got the 6 months free this is real nice.

I have found that talking to this car is much better than others. Try to talk normal and not disjointed and it seems to work better.

On a side not, I don think any car in the last 3 years from factory has let you enter NAV info into the factory unit while in motion. However some cars have a passenger trigger that would allow this.

Chris White should be able to fix this for you. ;)

I'm sure the radio would have to be sent to Chris, but he should be able to fix all the issues.

Yeah, but you have to remember to wait for the "beep" to begin talking. I can't even begin to tell you how nuts that has driven my wife and I on occasion....:RantExplode:

Great feedback, everyone, really appreciate it. I will say that the "Help" function was very effective with the voice commands. That's how I figured out that the sub-category under restaurants was named " BBQ Southern." It was also nice that it displayed your selections on the screen when you made them.

So, I had programmed a route to my home and the commands were "Navigation," "POIs along route," "Restaurants," "BBQ Southern." Luckily there weren't a ton of choices since I was still about 100 miles out from SLO. This was the most frustrating part of the whole adventure, as I was making it way more complicated than it needed to be. A list of BBQ joints was displayed on the screen, and it would even let me scroll down to highlight Mo's, but it wouldn't let me "click" on the entry! So I say "Mo's Smokehouse Barbeque" and she says "sorry, I don't understand you" and so I say it again and she still doesn't get it then I see that it says "Mo's Smokehouse BBQ," not "barbecue" so I'm like, "Oh, OK, dummy, that's what's wrong" so then I go through the whole thing again but this time I say "Mo's Smokehouse Bee Bee Que" and again she's all with the "sorry, I don't understand you, good-bye."

So now I am SCREAMING "Mo's Smokehouse Bee Bee Que!!!!" at the damned thing like a freaking IDIOT and then FINALLY I glance at the screen and realize that all of the choices are displayed in a NUMBERED LIST. So now I take a deep, cleansing breath and simply say "six" and Bingo!

It was actually very satisfying when all was said-and-done.... And the Tri-Tip sandwich was delicious. :)

Did you make sure that you were spitting and that you had bulging veins sticking out of your forehead when you screamed at it? That's the way I do it! :RantExplode:

I know this might be a bit off topic, but it fits the description. Anyone try and send navigation information with their phone to the car yet? Mine seems to always want to navigate to 0 degrees longitude and 0 degrees latitude, regardless of the destination I pick or which phone we use. Same problem on both WP8 and latest Android. The map marker will be right next to africa in the middle of the atlantic ocean :D The car will tall me it can't navigate to the location. The description of the location works fine, but the actual coordinates are screwed up.

I tried to do this to avoid OP's problems with changing the navigation waypoints from the passenger seat while my wife was driving.

I also need to break out the book and learn how to ask the car for MORE TIME! I was playing with Nav voice commands again last night to try to get directions to the Chinese restaurant that I was heading to.... Well, in Silicon Valley, there are more than a few to choose from! She popped up a list of about 100 places and gave me what felt like about 2 or 3 seconds to scroll through the list to #32 and tell her--no way that could happen. I'm hoping there's something programmed in that I can tell her "HOLD YOUR HORSES."

Voice command does not work on navagation

My voice command does not work at all and hasn't since purchased 6 months ago. Took into the dealer and after a day they tried to say couldn't fix it. It will not understand any address it's like she's foreign and speaks no english. I was so upset you pay for a car as much as this one and the voice command does not work. They were saying the navigation works fine but you have to use it all manually. I told them not except-able and a this needed to be resolved so late in second day they called and said it's something to do with the ways points or something they know what's causing it but not sure how to prevent it. Has anyone else had this happen. They still have my car for day 3 and will see what happens. They had another on the lot and did same thing as mine. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!
