The latest report from the Car Connection website indicates the same thing. Their article talks about the future of the SS and when it might be built in the states. This article talks about 2017 being a key year but that SS production could be considered here as early as 2015. And with GM kicking in one billion dollars of someones money(lol) to renovate five assembly plants here in states maybe this will be one of them.

I call bullsh*t!

I startup auto plants for a living. I go from one to the next. Overseeing the installation of new equipment, debugging it, teaching the plant how to operate it...etc.

To build an all new product, (Zeta II) a new (to the US) rear wheel drive vehicle will take a minimum of 3 years until the start of production of salable vehicles. That assumes GM fast tracks the project. Remember we are not talking just freshening up an existing product, but rather a 100% new product.

Some one is trying to blow smoke up our butts! :eek:k:

Why if they already have the facilities and the equipment overseas would it take 3 years to retrofit an existing building with software and the correct robots?

Its not like the plant will be coming online from scratch, it already knows how to operate....

It's on the ats platform Camaro will be built in same plant as caddies so SS is a no brainier. No new plant needed just change in some equipment is all.

Finally some more solid news on this.
Now all we need is to hear on future production being Alpha platform based. But first i want to see what the alpha platform Camaro will be like just to get an idea of how different they will be on a 4 door version of it.

So the Holden brand is still going to exist, it is just not going to be produced in Australia anymore? And now it is going to be produced in America?

That is good news in my books because I was a bit afraid they would just stop building the SS because the Holden plants in Auz are shutting down.

The article I read said they would use the all new (it does not exist yet)"ZETA II" platform. That means 3 years minimmum.

I even discussed this one of the mechanical excution engineers today. He agreed that 3 years would be light speed for GM. They could shorten that up by moving the existing tooling to the US. They would just have to halt Commodore production tomorrow and make no further Commodores or SSs (?) for 1 to 2 years. I don't think that is going to happen.

So unless you are actually hoping for a rebadged ATS you will not see an actual (Zeta II platform) SS in less than 3 years...

Sorry...

All the revisions done to the platform does indeed make VF Zeta II. I see a next gen SS and possibly Holden sport sedans based on Essentially the same platform as the CTS. Utilising cheaper suspension components and less exotic metals around 2017 or 2018 model year

Seriously, I do this for a living. Just maybe when somebody actually knows what they are talking about you should try listening.

The Camaro is built on the Zeta platform not the Zeta II. the Zeta II platform does not exist yet. Heck, I was sent to Oshawa (where they make the Camaro) to tune up some of the equipment that was not operating properly!

"The source doesn’t offer to many details, but says the SS “will be built in North America under the forthcoming Zeta II platform”."

GM to Move Chevrolet SS Production to North America

Forthcoming means it does not exist yet.

Perhaps you are the one smoking the crooked ciggs...
