MyLink Misfunctions?

5863 Views 18 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  z51vett
Strange problem. Iphone (45 running iOS7) is connected via USB (for music) and BT (for phone services). For no obvious reason, after I select iPod (USB) for the music source, MyLink unilaterally switches to BT streaming (which does not sound as good). Any idea why the preference is switching?

Just clarify. You want to play music via USB not BT? Ill see what I can find out but can't do much till I finish work. I know a couple guys testing Commodores and the systems should work pretty much the same. I'll ask them what they know

I have not had this use, I use this almost every day. Or use the Integrated Pandora application. Are you sure the USB is reading?

Could just be a software issue. Do you have the latest iOS update?

Looks like he does, iOS 7. I just has to do a hard reinstall to my iOS 7 on my iPhone 5 because of issues (Dfu iTunes restore). Maybe that will help? I did it due to battery life issues and that was the first trouble shooting step from the apple store.

Yes, trying to play via USB, but BT takes over. Found a work around. If I power down the phone. Once it restarts, it appears to find the USB connection first and that locks in the USB Link while the phone still gors through the BT. I also tried loading my library to a thumb drive, but the car takes too long to index 47gig of music.

Just wondering what setting yo have for BT on iphone? as I leave my BT off to extend battery life.
I have sent off a message to Customer care re updating MyLink as iOS7 wasn't out when the cars first shipped IIRC. Not that, that should make a major difference
Gotta love computers as when they work they're awesome and when they don't you want to throw em out a window.

On the iPhone, the BT is simply paired to the car without syncing the phone book (too many numbers). It seems that if the car finds the BT first, it wants to lock in a preference. I tried calling customer service for the Mylink system - and not surprisingly - she had no clue. That is par for the course, when I have a computer glitch, it usually is tier 2 and above.

If I can detail more parameters, I will post.

Interesting. Maybe that's for the iPod only...when using pandora I never have that issue. I don't use my iPod much but when I have it always goes to the USB over the BT.

I got a reply from Holden re MyLink and it was that iPhone pairs with more basic functions over bt and pandora and stitcher work via USB just waiting for a reply to streaming music from the phones library of music. Am at work again so will edit this post as it sucks typing on a tiny screen.
Thanks, and no big hurry. I will have the car for a long time (I agree on the typing as my details last night were on the iphone). The weird thing seems to be the preference issue.

Thanks. I spoke with someone at infotainment and she suggested I go to the dealer and see about an update or reload. There was nothing on her system for the SS vin numbers.

Hey madxmaxz so sorry you havn't gotten an answer to this yet. I found this in the manual on page 7-23. Hopefully it will help.

"Launching Pandora
Connect the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the USB port, or connect an Android or BlackBerry through Bluetooth. See Auxiliary Devices on page 7-40 or Bluetooth on
page 7-75. For first-time use, set up stations before connecting to the vehicle. The Pandora icon will be available on the Home Page and the source pop-up displays if the
latest application is installed on the device.

Using the iPhone, iPod Touch,
or iPad
1. Plug the device into the USB port. The phone screen must be unlocked.
2. To launch, do one of the following:
. Launch the application on the device.
. Press Pandora on the Home Page.
. Press b / g and say
“Pandora” or “Tune Pandora.”
. Accept any notification on the screen of the device.
To relaunch Pandora, press SRCE or SRC on the steering wheel controls.
If nothing happens when the available Pandora screen button is pressed, download the latest Pandora application and retry. Pandora will always be highlighted on the Home Page when an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is connected using the USB port. To use, log into your account. If the “Please See Device” message is shown, the login screen may
display on the device.

If the “Please Unlock the Phone or Restart the App and Try Again” message is shown, then the phone may be locked. Unlock the phone, close the app, then restart the app
and make sure the Home Page is visible on the phone/device. If the vehicle is shut off while tuned to Pandora and the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is left connected to the USB port before the next ignition cycle, the radio will start playing Pandora when the vehicle is started. If Pandora is shut down on the phone or another audio app is used, Pandora may not start on the next ignition cycle. If iPod source is selected, it may show iPod and then switch to Pandora.

Let me know if this works or not. If it doesn't I will keep looking until I find an answer for you!

Thanks, but this is not a Pandora issue.

Instead, it is a preference issue. If I plug in my iPhone, it shows as an available iPod. However, when I switch to the iPod (i.e., as the USB device), it changes over on the screen and then switches to playing via BT. I think this is an Apple OS problem. I have tried many permutations, and some have worked for a short time (e.g., having the phone power off completely when I plug it in, then starting the phone already plugged into the USB port). That allowed me to lock in the USB play, but the next time I tried the same permutation, the phone still switched over to BT. Again, probably an iOS 7 problem based upon my reading of some other blogs in the Apple arena where people are complaining about their phones.
don't you just love software :(

So I think this can be fixed by simply telling the phone line out rather than BT for audio. Just like you would for BT head set or headphones.

No options on ios7 to do that. Work around was a 64 gig thumb drive on which I loaded about 50 gig from iTunes.
