Ice is the operative word today... I picked up my SS at 2:00 pm this afternoon just in time for our first real taste of winter. I'm guessing it might have been the worst day ever to bring home a car shod with Potenza's. All went well and the car is safely tucked away in the garage waiting for dry roads.

A few photos...

G'day and congrats on your new ride and joining this site. A bummer about the weather :( we're just a couple days into summer and it just started pouring down with rain and thunder. It is quite muggy today.

You'll find plenty of great guys n girls on this site with some good knowledge. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride

Off-topic, but today was the weirdest summer weather I've seen in a while!

The snow would be a massive bummer right as you pick up the SS, on the other hand, the photos look amazing! If it wasn't supplied with summer tyres Chevrolet could use them for promotional material!

Winter Wheel/Tire Setup

Yes. I plan to get the SS set up for winter driving.

rjandern posted on this topic earlier in the Wheels, Tires, & Suspension forum...

I am trying to find an appropriate winter wheel and tire combination. I live in West Michigan and we get a considerable amount of lake effect snow every winter. So I am looking for a Minus One sized tire and wheel combination for the winter (at least relative to the rear wheels). I have been using the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP, due to its similar configuration for an approximate when browsing for wheels. Could you please confirm that the following is an appropriate set up for my 2014 Chevrolet SS.

Enkei PF01 wheels 460-880-1242SP
18" x 8"
5 x 120
Offset 42 mm (35 mm is available too)
Measurements are based on the size chart on the linked page

Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4
245/45R18

I plan to purchase a set of Bridgestone Blizzak LM-32 Winter tires and mount them on a set of "winter" wheels. I'm drawn toward getting a set of black wheels but having a tough time deciding on which one. I'll post a few Photoshop creations here.

First the SS with the Enkei PF01's

This one looks much better than the pic below with the police wheels.

Just have to ensure they clear the Brembo's. Not sure if the PPV wheels do. I'm in Eastern Michigan and plan to park my silver SS all winter.... put a GXP G8 through the winter once and I still have bad dreams about it!

Actually I'm going to park the SS for the winter and only take it out if the roads are really nice (we almost always have some very nice days in the middle of winter).

The Bridgestone folks don't recommend using the Potenza's "near freezing"...

The Potenza RE050A was developed to provide good traction along with responsive and predictable dry and wet road handling. It is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

So if I want to drive on a dry winter day should I get a set of Blizzak LM-32's or is there a better choice?

A little "better" image showing the black Enkei PF01 wheels on an SS...

Can't speak for the LM-32's but have had two sets of the LM-60; one on my G8 and another set on a Saab. Fabulous tires....

Any way you could Photoshop the fog/LED housing in body color?

That's the idea, thx!... I talked a friend into body color for his fog bezels on his Camaro ZL1 (in silver of course!) and I really like the way it turned out. I'm leaning toward silver over the black on the SS but think the front could do with a bit more silver.... hmmmmmmmm
