Manual transmission MUST be made available now that the SS is "made to order only".

GM MUST make a manual transmission available now that the SS Sedan will be made to order only.

If this "made to order" nonsense is the catalyst that makes a manual transmission available to the United States, it will be worth the inconvenience of the "made to order nonsense" to everyone.

That literally would be the only bright spot in this scheme. They have to throw us a bone in some form, if for nothing else so we don't feel like the mindless schmucks they apparently take us for.

Here's how Infiniti handled their Q50 launch:

You could configure a car on their website. The car will launch in a variety of trim levels...Infiniti gambled and pre-built cars in configurations they estimated would be attractive to buyers.

If you gave them your contact info, they gave you a guaranteed purchase price on the car, plus a free iPad if you buy one. I don't care about an iPad, which is kind of a gimmicky marketing ploy, but I do appreciate that they're able to give firm pricing in advance and have actual cars on hand to buy when it launches. I've already heard from the local dealer on the car. Meanwhile, when I walked into my Chevy store and asked about an "SS" they thought I was impersonating a snake.

Since we have to order, I'll take a seven speed mated to the LT1, in one of Holden's colors that never make it over.;)
They always have catchy names for their colors...Ignition Orange, Phantom Black Metallic. Make mine Ass-Rape Red, please.

They can upgrade potential Impala buyers by giving them a ride over to a Honda dealership.

without one on the lot, how are they gonna upgrade those prospective impala buyers? I can't see them selling very many of these if you can't even go see one.
Well if you want one for yourself it's made to order.

It would be stupid if they didn't have one to show people, wouldn't be surprised if that actually happens and all they have to show you are whats on papers and on video.

If they ever hope on the SS having a future, having an SS in dealerships or at least in flagship dealers is the way to go.

I wouldn't mind driving a bit out of my way from my dealer to a flagship dealer to test drive an SS to see if it's really for me

I'm starting to think they don't really care about the future or about the buyers interested in this car. This is one of the few boards discussing a car that most of America will never know existed, and most of us don't seem to eager to go lay our money on the line with this latest ordering debacle. They truly did make this car just to make it. Doesn't seem much thought has gone into it.

Sorry, but that's not my idea of build to order. I imagine this exchange between two SS owners:

"Holy crap...I didn't recognize that thing at first!"

"Yeah. it's completely custom. It's red and it has no sunroof. What's yours?"

"It's a special order car...white and no sunroof. it took them three months to build it but it was worth the wait."

" I know a guy on my forum that has a white one with a sunroof. That thing is SICK. If he opens the roof up he can see the sky"

"Yeah. The combinations are virtually limitless on the SS. Unless you can count past ten."

"Right. Hey, how did you like being ass-raped?"

"Not that great really, because I'm not a homosexual so anal intercourse is not something I'm used to. You?"

"I hated it at first, but by the second hour I got used to it."

"SS...You can't spell "ass-rape" without it!"

"Ha ha ha. Good one."

GM NEEDS to offer the TR6060 in the SS Sedan at launch as a no cost option to make sure the sell ANY and can justify a 2015 model year.

With that said, I just had another thought:

THe C7 Corvette launches in the fall with the new 7 speed stickshift transmission: The TR6070.
Maybe, GM is making the mistake of not offering the manual in the 2014 SS Sedan because they are going to offer the 7 speed TR6070 in the SS Sedan, and they do not want to steal any thunder (glory) from the C7.
There may be some CAFE fuel mileage issues as well. Who knows.

Either way, we will all be happy to have a 7 speed, as long as it's a manual in 2015.
But, GM still NEEDS to offer the TR6060 at launch if they want the SS Sedan to sell.

They don't care if it sells. If it doesn't sell, they've lost nothing. They'd rather build a handful and have their profit margin 100% protected, period. I believe the term the GM guy used in the article was that unlike the GTO or G8, the profit margin on the SS will be "bullet proof". In other words, on the SS, you will pay what they want or you will not get the car. They stand to lose nothing.
