First time around I sat with her for the duration of the trip, on the way back I was driving in front of her in a car I will sell tomorrow.

She said she hit a cone...

yea...that cone.

It appears that the mirror is in tact minus the top cover, which seemed to have came off clean, all the clips seem ok.

Anyone have a clue if I can get that cover from the dealer or do I have to buy a new mirror now?

That sucks eggs!

Good no one was hurt, or more damage to car.

Not sure how to answer your mirror question, but I would guess you'll need the whole mirror replaced.

I'm very happy to read that NO one was injured.....
Materials can be replaced.....

My wife calls my car "Christine" I had never seen the
Movie so, I had to sit through the movie just to understand
What/Why she called MY SS "Christine."
She says "it's the way I treat the car, she's scared of it" I said
Well, sounds like jealousy to me... OMG that was an actual scene
From the movie....dang! She's right. Now, if only my SS could rebuild herself
After taking out my enemies.

92193908 should get you a black right hand mirror scalp.
There's lots of stock contamination on these so open the box and check for an R and that it's black if buying from a dealership.
Paul, thanks for the info. Do you know if ZL1 mirrors will work? That's assuming I don't find an exact cover match.

Glad it wasn't worse. I'm sure your wife feels horrible, poor thing. I'm the wife in this house and the SS is mine, mine, mine. I don't share! Hubby has driven it once, a very short drive. Why? Because that is something he would do. He has ripped the whole mirror off vehicles and constantly runs up on the curb, sigh. Not in my car, thank you very much. Plus he knows NOTHING about cars, no appreciation. He's the football guy, I'm the racing junkie.
Hope you can get it fixed quickly.

After owning my SS for six weeks I decided it was time to give my wife a driving lesson. She likes to go quick and fast. 38 years of my race cars and Corvette keeps that spirit alive. She has a 2013 Mailbu. These cars are very similar in width and have similar interior controls. She knows that the SS hauls butt at will. After getting all adjustments to her liking and saving her settings, off we go. "This is just like my car". That was the first comment. Then I said "push on the gas a little". "Whoaaa, that is not like my car!!". After that she had a real respect for the 'Silver Bullet'. Speaking of outside mirrors, I have a collection of torn off mirrors from each of her prior cars. And they are prominently displayed in my shop. 037, I feel for you, but stuff does happen.

My wife drove the first 60mi back home. Considering she has never driven an automatic nor a full-size RWD, I'd say she did pretty well. Other than the "imaginary clutch press" leading to a thump in the brakes, everything went smoothly. I still want to take her to a defensive driving course so she can learn the limits of the car and how to react accordingly in a safe environment. She is the co-owner and it is as much hers as it is mine. Whenever she wants to take it for a spin, she's encouraged to do it. If something happens, that's what insurance is for.

Dealer quoted $42 for part $75 to paint and that's before install and taxes. Refused to give me a part number.

And this is the dealer I bought my car from...not impressed.

Not sure if you are aware but Walkinshaw performance over here do a Carbon scalp for the VE mirrors which is the same as the VF. Not cheap but may be someone interested in dressing up the mirrors (and the side vents when these come on stream over there!).

I assume I can post a link? If not mods please remove and I wont be naughty again ;)

Can you share the name of the dealer? I'm unfortunately looking for a new dealer to service my car in the NYC area and would like to stay away. Terrible that they get away with this with impunity and GM Customer Service supports then.

If chrome works for you, I thought I read on this forum somewhere that the G8 mirror "scalps" are the same. You can find chrome version sets on Ebay.
Just FWIW
