My last Muscle car was a 68 Chevelle SS 396. I sold it in 1997.
Last month I finally got a chance to see the new Super Sport, in person.
Two weeks later, I found out the dealer had sold the two SS in their allocation. The deal had a Black and White one on order.
I order my own,a Silver Ice Super Sport. It's due in, in late March or early April.
I know it will be worth the wait, for this true American Muscle car.

Welcome to the forum, chevelle freak & congrats on ordering a new silver SS! Also, if you haven't already, check out pics of Headrat's '65 Pro-Street Chevelle (thread-My first drive in the SS, post #8 today)-pretty awesome!

Hey Commodoreman, At what point do you have to convert your car in Australia to right hand drive????

Each state is different but almost all rules are the same, our ministers got together and any state with a different rule was changed to a national standard.

Under 25yo day one (only a manufacture can reg a LHD for engineering use only)
Over 25yo exempt

Their is an exemption for foreign registered vehicles used by their owners ie: US service personal while posted in aus

There are certainly a growing number of US imports. The Buick cost my mate around $35K.

A couple of other things that have increased the number of weekend cruisers in my state (Victoria) at least is changes in the club permit rules.

Previously, you could get a club permit for a car instead of registration, but you could only use it for sactioned club events. Otherwise you had to pay $700 a year registration and you would have to get a roadworthy certificate to register it, which could often cost thousands to get an old car up to modern safety standards.

Now, you can get a 45 day permit for $70, which means you can drive the car for any reason on 45 days of the year, and you can apply for 2 permits each year which gives up to 90 days. The other benefit is that depending on your club, you can get a permit without a roadworthy. A car on club plates also has to be 25 years or over.

Here in SA a car has to be older than 30 years. I think Western Australia is 15 or 20 from memory. As always there are exemptions
I remember a Guy here had a real hard time registering a LHD Corvette because it wasn't the factory colour it was built in. It actually was the factory white as the base colour but had extra colourings and markings as it had belonged to a known singer from the US (all I can remember was female and possibly country singer)

Well my memory is good, here's the video on the story. Also happens to be the model Vette I hope to bring over in the next few years
