I've checked a few insurance company websites for quotes. None have the SS listed on their menus. Had a chat session with one company who said they could manually issue a policy.
For those that have already obtained coverage, please post your experiences, along with any tips. Thanks.

I don't have coverage (or car) yet but my agent had no idea when I asked for a quote. I'm still waiting

It took some explaining to do just to make sure they knew, that I knew why, they were confused it wasn't another model's SS version. It's was like 'who's on first'
:signlol:

I can see this as the conversation with the adjuster...
"Just Chevrolet SS, no impala SS, no Malibu SS, no Camaro SS; Just Chevrolet SS, Google it. It is basically the same as a Pontiac GXP"

Side not, I have a 2011 Caprice PPV and had to call Progressive to get a quote. I have the V8 6.0L and my insurance only went up about $50 from my Tahoe LS 5.3L. True it is not a Chevrolet SS, but that may give you all an idea of price increases.

We have to explain ad nauseum what it is because the vin isn't in the vin decoding software yet!

Since there is no symbol assigned for it yet the cost will be based on the vehicle price and of course the dreaded hi-performance listing and your history/credit score/territory/miles per year etc.

When I was checking last year a cts-v sportwagon which is listed as hi-performance was about 25% more than my 2011 Yukon to replace the yukon with the cts-v. The Yukon has a better symbol than the Tahoes (less losses/thefts) and an Escalade has an unbelievable symbol because of the high theft/vandalism/accident loss experience.

The cts-v costs $71,000 but has a real low loss experience and so will our SS's once they accumulate some loss experience time. When a symbol is assigned (really a guess the first year for a completely unique new vehicle) the symbol will probably start high and go down each year when the symbols are recalculated based on loss history. Symbols are calculated by a singular third party company and do not vary by insurance company.

Not to get anybody upset but in my book insurance is not something you buy on line by filling out a form and when you have a problem call a near minimum wage call center person reading (usually with poor comprehension) a computer screen to get things straightened out.

My 2nd generation agent I've done business with for 30 years. I got my first insurances from his father. He knows my voice when I call and when there is an issue CALLS (not emails or texts) the underwriter only because they are not allowed to speak to customers.

Relationships are important for insurance; just like banking.

We were not able to add the SS to our USAA policy until we were ableto call them and have an override done. While comparison shopping, most agencies refused to quote us or straight told us they would not insure the car due to the VIN not being recognized (Nationwide, Progressive, Esurance, Liberty Mutual, etc.)

Had a similar situation when we bought the PPV a year ago, but really no problem--they (USAA) just weren't recognizing the car since it was a fleet-only vehicle that they had not done a policy for previously. Whether it was an override action or anything like that, there never was a suggestion that it was a problem for us or for USAA to actually add coverage for the vehicle to our policy profile/account.
