Today was the greatest day to date for me in my current or former SS. Entered All American Sunday at the 25th Annual Good-Guys Heartland Nationals. Drove straight to the autocross course upon entry, so didn't really have a chance at a show award. First run was 73.52 seconds. I was told that with my stock tires and weight that I'd not break the 70 second mark. Second run was 71.08. Third (and best) run was 68.96. Fourth run was fast, probably the fastest, but I aborted after getting sideways at the top of the course. I got sideways, let out and went slow before dropping the hammer again. Figured on a terrible time but it ended up being a 70.01. Dang it. Should have ridden it out after all. Didn't get a fifth run in because SURPRISE! a Good-Guys official came over and told me he loved my car and awarded me with an All American Sunday award! Top that off with talking to and parking next to the autocross winner in the winner's circle. That was none other than former IROC, Can-Am, CART and two time Indy 500 champion Al Unser Jr. The car behind his in the picture is Dan Howe's #3 Wrangler Monte Carlo that you may have seen compete on Optima's Ultimate Street Car Challenge. Super nice guy, impressed with my(our) car(s).
The best part was having my friends and family there to share the day with. Awesome day.

Congratulations on a great day.

It's always good to hear about people out enjoying their car.

That's awesome! Car sounded good going around the course as well. Boring rainy day here in Cincinnati today. I need to have some fun like this with my car.
Did you have the solo axle back when I was in Iowa?

Indeed I did! Had the Solo Performance axle back before the car by several months, installed the day the SS came home. I hope you get to have the same kind of fun soon. Very therapeutic.

Well, because I screwed up the dashcam footage of my run, I'll offer an in car view of the course that I was on from a run that was a little over 9 seconds better than my best run. From that Indy 500 guy...

Great driving wish I could afford the maintenance to do this again.

That's why I haven't joined the Des Moines region SCCA. Once a year I'm probably OK, but several times a year would require tires and brakes and brake fluid and various other fluid changes. I also feel better about hammering the SS once a year vs once a week. :)

Wellllll, maybe a short burst here and there(daily perhaps:) ), just not as extreme on the braking or turning

Tires and pads, yes. Rest of the stuff? Nope. Don't get caught in the hype of doing "full on" prep that's not necessary. Remember, in autox you're not driving at speeds higher than seen on public roads. You're not putting that much extra stress on things that use the fluids, but if you were doing track days... yeah - Completely different animal, higher speeds, higher stresses.
