I was middle of the pack, cause of traction issues lol, but I loved every second!!
We ran our '12 Caprice 9C1 at an autocross late last year when we were waiting for parts for the race car, and had a blast. We sometimes forget how much fun driving on street tires can be. Got the car more out of shape than the car-nannies liked. Crossed the finish line on one run with the accelerator pedal on the floor, but the engine at idle.
Since we used our C Prepared numbers and class, we didn't PAX very well.
Was that on base, using some of the runways/taxiways?
A couple of times i got to around 65ish, and twisties im not sure hahaTHE only times I auto-x'd was with my 2004 GTO. all of the courses seemed to be set up for Miata's and Subie's and little Honda's. I raced with a couple of Camaro's. top speed like 45 though felt like more.
The course you were running was incredibly open....how fast were you running on the straights and light twisties?
Looks like a fun time.
All off worked better. I used comp mode a couple of times but that led to jerkyness cause the car was overpowering the nannies... all off made it where the car did what i expected.Curious as to the nanny settings Brian. All off or Comp mode or tired both? Looks like all off in the video but with your go fast goodies they may not be keeping up...
I plan on using Michelin Super Sports as my summer daily and occasional autocross. I have their all seasons for my winter set up and they work very well.It was an airport near the base. Yea I am going to have to experiment with tires. I want tires that can be used for DD and Auto-x here and there. The Nitto NT555's did not offer much grip and even allowed understeer a few times. Before that I used Hankook Ventus V12s and they were better in both areas, next I am thinking of trying out Nitto Invo's or Falken Azenis F453.
If I just cant get the grip I want from street tires I will change to R-compound tires.... just trying stuff out for now though

Even if he's CAM, doesn't change my tire suggestions, but not a good selection of them in 20s yet. 19s would be ideal. He's got different heads. That would fall under CAM with 200+tw tires or CP with anything less than that, by the SCCA ruleset. Downsizing the wheels (those look like 20s?) and adding some sidewall will vastly help with longitudinal grip.
Also, please DO NOT FILM while out working on the course. If a car is sliding towards you while looking at a screen or viewfinder, your brain will not react fast enough to get you out of harm's way. That's why photographers use spotters when shooting out on a hot site and especially don't stand so close to an area where cars are prone to spinning, such as a slalom.
I told him not to film after he did it lol, but I figured I would post the video anyway haha. Thanks for tire suggestions, I am looking at 18s to increase sidewall. He's got different heads. I have been in the CAM class when running with the porsche club, and the open class when at the vette events. What class are you running in? I run CAM-C over here in illinois
Thanks for the tips! I was looking at both Bridgestone RE71R and Dunlop ZII StarSpecs, so I am in the right line of thinking. I just need to find a set of smaller wheels lol. sold my stockers a long time ago... my mistakeLet me make some suggestions...
1) I'm assuming you're stock. R comps are no longer stock eligible and would put you into a higher class. (SCCA and all clubs that use SCCA rules)
2) If you want good/great summer street tires, with some use for autox (not all seasons) then look at the Bridgestone RE71R or the Dunlop ZII StarSpec.
3) If you drive a lot in the wet for your DD duties, then I'd look at the Continental ExtremeContact DW or Michelin Pilot Supersports.
4) Good all seasons, then look no further than the Continental DWS06.
If you went to tire rack, you have to do it by size, because if you did it by car, it only specs the "XL" rated tires. Tires above are all Standard Load. You can run the tires listed above and shouldn't be any issue.
