43840 Views 50 Replies 25 Participants Last post by  TXSS
well here are some before and after shots of the H&R Coilover System in the SS. total drop that was adjusted to was the following: 2 inches in the rear and 1.6 inches in the front. given you can go higher or even lower if you wanted to.

in 4x4 stock mode:

After:

another Before:

another After:

these are progressive and conical springs with a Super Pro Bushing on top. they look like this:

those NOT familiar with H&R they are Made In Germany

rears look like these:

one thing that was noticed that the car actually was higher on the passenger side stock 15 mms! also it looks like someone at the factory or during inspection left a LED flashlight under the car wedged between the heat shield between the rear end. were were like what the? lol!

Not sure if they do or not. That's why I was asking what the compression/rebound ranges were as well as the ride height ranges were going to be for the H&R Coilovers...otherwise it may be worth investing in a test set of Pedders or KW to see IF they would fit.

Don't want to be that guy spreading false rumors. Ha.
Damnit..

You do know Pedders USA is out of business.
Wretched Motorsports used to be one of Pedders' larger retailers--they're still around and speak fluent Zeta, whether they're (still) a Pedders source or not. There are other Australian chassis component sources that do many of the same things that Pedders does.

Maverick, any idea on what the overall adjustability will be on the damper/rebound settings? and what will be the range for the ride height change (max? min?)

Just curious if these would be an option over/instead of seeing if the Pedders G8 Coilovers would fit the SS...or another KW Coilover from the Zeta platform.
sorry missed this one....

these are basic coilovers they pre set they do not have a damper setting at all. they use a conical spring and the factory hat. i asked about that. however because of the progressive spring they is why the do now have that setting. IMO i does not need it. However i can see in some racing application where this would be applicable.

true height adjustment to keep full damper travel is not an option on these only adjustable spring platform.

what you see in the OP photos with the stock 19's are 2 inches in the rear and 1.6 inches in the front.

with the 20's here:

i had to lower the rears another 10mm to get rid of some gap. but that was maxed. the collars were already getting past the lower control arms. no rubbing on them but you could not tighten them anymore unless you used a screw driver. i do not think most people will go this low. ;)

i asked about the G8 already. H&R said the G8 ones would not work. i asked about the camaro as well. they said no though very similar. now even if they did cross over the SS/VF has a totally different weight balance then the G8/VE. i think it was like 53% on the front of the VF. now i have speculation some of these companies that came out quick with springs might have used g8 ones. again only speculation. but i doubt it is the right spring rate for the VF. glad you don't want to spread rumors because there were a ton of G8 guys saying the exhaust was the same and everything. NOT! the swapping of parts between the VE and VF is not as much as i think people thought it would be.

and what is the company people keep talking about? headders? jedders? medders? never head of them.

Lol. Was just throwing names out there I knew played in the market for the Zeta platform. I'd be interested to see what your same drop looks like on the factory 19s...or any 19s for that matter.

Tein is the ****!!! Had those on my Integra, very impressed!!

Unfortunately, the only Chevy vehicle that Tein has made coilovers for is the Cavalier...that doesn't seem promising for the SS market unless you want to go talk directly with them about your interest...

actually this is the same set up just with stock 19s with the H&Rs. the only difference between this photo and the other is 20's and 10mm lower. you can't even tell in these photos even if i put the 19s back on. also know i did not lower the front anymore between these photos and the others with 20's

Interesting. Even with my substantial google-fu...I could only find Tein coilovers for the Cavalier. Good to know.
Interesting, I wouldn't put Tein anything on my car. Maybe my standards are higher but I think they just aren't very good. I have seen many shock dynos of them and was never impressed.

Ohlins, AST, higher end KW's... the list goes on but not Tein.

You can say what you want, higher standards or not, but 10 years ago Tein was the ****, your opinion or not.

245 and 275 front would easily take a 255. Rear maybe a 285 but not with the offset I have. It is a very tight fit in the rear.
