Well it looks like I will be getting an SS much sooner than I thought I would. I wanted to wait at least to find out about a M6 option, but my current daily driver spun a bearing and now i have a lovely rod knock :lol2:

Since I am stuck with an auto, I'm actually torn between a new Tahoe and the SS....I know, apples to oranges.

Anyways, I'm most likely getting the SS, so I am wondering what you all paid, or even acquired, for the extended warranty?? I am not so worried on the mechanical side, I am more worried about all the electronics on this car. I am one of those that drives my cars 10+ years, so I want to be sure the electronics get covered. My mods will void the mechanical warranty anyways :whatdoyouthink:

Most dealers still offer GMPP and it is available up to 6 yrs coverage(I think). I, too, keep the cars I like 10+ years. I'm planning on getting it, but, I will wait to get it just before the 3/36 runs out.

The new Tahoe is nice, but, I refuse to be associated with any vehicle that even remotely resembles a "Station Wagon".

Declined extended warranty , I have been in the auto repair business for over 30 years and have seen more people lose money on them than gain . I always recommend that people take the money that they would spend on a extended warranty and put it in the bank and then use it to pay for the repair if its ever needed and if you make it through without using it you get to keep it . Most extended warranty contracts are written to the advanage of the warranty company not the end user [for obvious reasons]. Remember if the services contracts were good for you they wouldn't sell it to you . Most have a 2500.00 plus price tag , you can fix a lot for that kind of money . Sorry for the rant but i've seen to many people lose on them .

My dealer offered a 7 year or 70K GMPP and a road hazard. We took both. The 7-70 was not cheap, around 4K and the road hazard for three years was $795. Because of us being kinda in a rural area the road hazard plan was I feel a good deal with the cost of tires and these wheels.

Extended warranty is much cheaper when you get close to the 36 month/3 year end, and even lower if you have low miles on it. These warranty's have over 100% mark up. You can Google it and find that dealers will cut each others throat's for the business. When I picked up my SS they wanted me to go in and talk to their money man. I told them no I decline everything and they are wasting my time and gave them a cashiers check and asked for the keys.

Thanks for the info guys. I am mainly interested in the warranty on all the electronics. At $2500, I'm not going to do it. Closer to $1200-1500 for a 7year 100k and I would have to think about it.

My buddy just bought a new RAM pickup and they offered an extended warranty only on the electronics inside. I don't remember the price, but he said it was very reasonable.

We must be on oposite sides of the world, then, because I tell all of my friends to buy a warranty...a good one...on any modern automobile, repairs are too expensive.

I've never worked in a shop where the tranny man doesn't have a week's worth of work, 75% of it "extended warranty" repairs. GMPP rep was here today authorizing a steering gear replacement, we are on a first name basis, he's here that regularly. Our fax machine is busy all day with aftermarket warranty approvals and payments. What about dealer only items like Navigation Audio Units, HVAC controlers, HVAC actuators, electric seat motors(requiring the complete seat track..approx $1400.00), heater core replacement(complete dash removal for access) BCMs, Onstar VIU's, SDM modules,etc... One or two of these repairs will have "paid for" the initial cost to purchase the warranty.

But,hey...I'm in L.A. and you're in Indiana...things may be a lot different there.:duel:

consumer reports

with the warranty on these cars today, consumer reports recommends putting the cost of the extended warranty in the bank and by the time you need a repair you will have the money plus interest on the money and can probably pay for the repair in cash...these things are expensive but i believe more people have paid the money without using it than the other way around. if you can get the money back if it is not used, then it might be a good deal

Would that be the same Consumer Reports that always picks Asian imports over most GM & Ford models? Just saying . . . .

Maybe,... but its hard for me to see that, being on the receiving end of it everyday.

Maybe you guys, who pay cash for your cars, could do that...heck, you could do that...if you shelled out $45k by writing a check, then you could afford to fix anything on your car anyways...not so for me or most people, from what I see.

Just my opinion, by the way.

Think for a minute. You pay for a warranty, the insurer makes money, the dealer makes money, Chevy makes money, the salesman makes money, the guy that sold you on a policy makes money. Just go on line and cut out three people in the middle. My last car was a 2008 G-8 GT. I extended the warranty an extra year (bumper to bumper) $550 and it's a GM warranty.

When you bring your car in and get it fixed, I make money. I'll bet that you even make money from other people spending money on what ever you do for a living. It's the way the economy works.

I forgot if you buy the warranty and it goes into your payment GMAC or the loan company makes a ton of money
I'm with you on that one. I would not do that either. I definately not buy it at purchase.

Chevy Dealership

Besides a rocky start to my purchase, I walked out and called them people I could not trust I wound up going back when I could not find a Green SS anywhere near me. They called me half a dozen times to apologize before I went back. I told them what I wanted to pay, that I was doing my own financing (USAA), that I was using the USAA Buyers program which meant an additional $750 rebate and the price I would pay $1600 below MSRP. In the middle of this negotiation they tell me they will be giving me a life time Warranty which they do on all new Chevy's they sell. I also could have gotten two tickets to the Daytona 500 but I rather watch it on TV after having been to so many and having worked in the pits.
I am very happy with the car but with less then a 1000 miles on it there is still time to find something wrong, but I hope not.

David

PS the dealer is New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet.
