If you haven't done this already, and have a friendly parts department, you should go there and ask them for a printout of your Vehicle Build and Vehicle Summary, from the GM Global Connect system.

I'm not saying the information is 100% accurate, but it at least tells you what's in the system as far as your vehicle. For example--my car (Caprice PPV) was built in June 2011, best I can tell, but the database says Sep 30 2011--the car may have landed in the US or arrived at the ordering dealership by then, but it was actually assembled some months earlier, so it's not clear how the Global Connect system views this anomaly as it has been entered in this (my) case.

The Vehicle Build data includes a complete list of RPO's on the car, with descriptions, and Vehicle Summary is a complete record of the applicable warranties, with start & end dates (or odometer readings).

There is a menu of several different additional reports that can be selected, including Vehicle Component Summary, Vehicle Transaction History Detail, and Vehicle Delivery. There's more, but I have no idea just how much a dealer would be open to providing or how much data each owner may care about.

This info gives an owner a historical reference and "pedigree" for their SS. The same into is available for any GM vehicle, but for special models, like the SS, it's always nice to have this sort of information.

If you want these docs for your car, and don't have or can't find a cooperative dealer, let me know your VIN and I can help you.

As a note any GM dealer can punch up any GM make. I'm going to use my Buick/GMC/ex-Pontiac buddy's printer after my SS is built. Of course it's going to cost me a drive but I trust him to not burn it up or wrap it around a pole! He can't wait to compare it to the G8GXP.

This has "plenty" of views, but I'm pretty sure a significant number of new Forum members and SS owners have not seen it or obtained the data mentioned--if they care to have it.

If there's a provision in this Forum to make a thread "sticky", this one could benefit from it.

If nothing else, the data makes for interesting reading! Some interpretation may be required.

How do you folks figure out the car number is xxxx out of xxxx PBM w/ sun and spare ,etc, etc? I've seen that in some signatures and seems cool to know.

You can send a PM to Chevrolet Customer Care for the build info, but the 2015 data is not available yet. Jeff M. at CCC will post when he has info for us.

It would appear that most of us noobs contacted the CCC through the private messaging feature on this board -- HOWEVER, a parallel thread recently started by TXSS provided the ominous warning about "big brother"/forum posts leading to warranty flagging of cars owned by certain forum members who subsequently boasted of the modifications they made to their vehicles.

Long story short - think twice before providing your VIN to the CCC, especially if you are planning to make mods to your powertrain.

Thanks,
as a new owner/ member here this is good info.

Tuesday I'm headed to my dealer for a shock issue. Is this something the service writer can do for me?
Honestly 'd like to have the same info on my '06 Dmax.

*EDIT* and when the data is available I'd love to know the build # for my car.

yes, you should be able to get a similar "dossier" for any GM vehicle, just not sure how far back they can go.

Service Writer should be able to do this, too--just depends on how well they know the system. My "in" locally is with parts department, but it could just as easily be a service drive deal.

Just did an upload of a 9-page report for a 2016 owner, and noticed an interesting entry on the build info--RPO R03 in the Option Codes (should match Service Parts Identification List/Label on spare tire cover)--Wheels, 19" front & 20" rear forged aluminum

Hmmmmmm......?
