Not bad, nice to know what I could potentially pay for one if I were to try to approach a dealer about it.

Understand that dealerships don't have to sell you the car if you're requesting GM Emp Pricing. I know none of the dealers in my area were willing to budge (except for the local dealer that I've bought from a few times) from MSRP when I bought my G8.

Where do you see the $3k incentive? I see no incentive on 2014 SS and only about $1k off the price when you configure one.

I'm using zip code 78753 - South Central Region.
FYI...When I tried it there was a $3490 difference. pretty substantial!

Weird. It's working now - I see the discount. Unfortunately I'm only eligible for supplier pricing which looks like it's $1550 off. Anyone know if the $750 USAA member discount applies to SS? I don't see anything saying it doesn't.

GM (and the Dealers) is pretty careful about Employee and Family Pricing. The Dealer will not get reimbursed if they cannot supply a valid voucher number.

The secret is the "GM Supplier Discount for Friends". Nearly all GM employees are allowed to give away 3 of these per year to anyone they want to. That's right, anyone! Because the SS will made in such limited numbers we know you can't dicker to get a better deal, but the Supplier discount will do it for you. It works out to about $1700 off of MSRP for a SS with the sun roof. It also prevents the dealer from jacking up the price. All dealers are required to sell Employee and Supplier discount cars at the discount rate. No ifs ands or buts.

If you don't know a any GM employees you could beg, borrow or steal one from then it gets tougher. You could try an Craigslist ad in a town with GM plant. Offer to pay $250, ****, even at $500 it would still be a deal.

Participation by dealers is not mandatory. It is up to the dealer to participate in the employee or supplier program.

A GM employee who sells a code will be fired instantly. GM DOES watch craigslist and ebay for this. The customer care people watch our forum and all the others for offers to sell/buy codes. It is considered stealing/fraud and is one of the few things an employee can do to be instantly fired. If found out after the sale the 'purchaser' of the code is also open to charges of fraudulently obtaining the code.

Supplier and employee are not compatible with some other programs FYI.

Very true Cb750. People have to be careful using GM Pin codes. we ask 21 questions before we go ahead and let our customers use it. We honor employee pricing on everything right now but the SS, Stingray, and Z/28 because they are limited production.

Every dealer is different on how they treat this.

Not so... Dealer participation in the Employee Pricing is voluntary, as stated in the program rules. I had one dealer in SE Michigan tell me over the phone that he would honor the employee price only to get there and have them back out. Said 'retail only on this car'. This was after a 50 mile drive to get there to place a deposit (car was inbound, but not yet there). Another store gave the employee discount and I took delivery there.

I was not aware that participation is not mandatory.

On the other hand I am talking about the "Supplier Discount for Friends" not the "Employee Pricing".
Supplier Discount for Friends states...

"Through the GM Supplier Discount for Friends, eligible GM employees can

offer a great vehicle discount to one friend or acquaintance per month.
Make sure your friends know about all the amazing things going on at

GM and why they should consider one of our exciting models."

There is no limit as to who they can give this discount to.

No one needs to get their panties in bunch, in no way was I suggesting that anyone should do anything that would make them personally uncomfortable...

My knickers are not in a twist.

Just trying to keep the information correct which benefits all.

BTW Accepting supplier pricing is not mandatory ... it is up to the dealer whether they want to or not. Granted they make more on a supplier deal vs employee; but its still not a lot vs a skinny retail deal.

Discount

In the old days GM set aside inventory for employees to buy that was not part of the dealers allocation. If he got 50 corvettes and you ordered one he got 51. Dealers did not like this and campaigned to get the inventory. GM gave in and that put the dealers in the drivers seat for the employee discount program. This sucks for GM employees when it comes to special vehicles. Not all dealers will say no employees have to hunt pick and cuss to get discount. But dealer associations in geographic locations may get together and it's members say no.

GM at a loss?

According my buddy who works at the dealer, at MSRP on the SS, GM only makes about 800 bucks...
That means that if people are getting employee discounts, GM is actually losing? Granted, dealers have fees and stuff, but normally that's $500 - $800 or so.

I'm not a salesman or anything, but that doesn't really sound all that lucrative... maybe that's why dealers are trying to jack up their prices? IDK.. just food for thought.

Employee discounts are nice, Chevy is good people.

Your friend is right, that's a little off, but there is not a lot of room for floor salesmen to make much money on all our halo performance cars. These upper echelon performance vehicles almost sell themselves. These consumers know what they want, put it in their crosshairs and pull. Most revenue is generated from Cruze/Sonic/Spark/Malibu sales, at least in the north east.

Other than some of the trucks, there isn't much room on just about anything. Not like what it used to be anyhow. And with incentives it just complicates things further. Working at a dealership is tough.
