This is for actual SS owners....

What kind of gas mileage are you getting?

Are you using it as a Daily Driver or Weekend Warrior?

I know what that pretty window sticker says it will get but I want to know what actual drivers are getting.

I still haven't pulled the trigger. I have researched, looked, and visited the dealer. Some recent home updates have put my purchase off until at least May. The joy of owning a home . But I've seen some reviews that state this car is a gas guzzling machine. I'm hoping someone can put some numbers down after driving one for over a month.

City: ?
HWY: ?

My overall mileage shows as 16.3 MPG, most of my driving, total of 1111 miles is around town. I have seen 25 MPG on the Interstate.

David
WOW....that is better than I thought. Still interested to hear from others but thanks for the response David.

My truck gets 14/15 in the city so anything higher than that is a plus. Of course the PREMIUM gas cost more but I'm used to that from previous vehicles.

Overall 16.1mpg. That is with 5300 mls and 90% city (Houston) driving. It started off at 12.9mpg but that was because it was new and I was, well, heavy footed...

It may depend on where you live and how you drive. Virtually every recent V8 sedan that I have owned gets about 9 -16, 2 Cadillac North*s, 1 Q45. I expect the same/similar from the SS. My V had the "gas-guzzler" thing going on too.

Sorry guys, but who cares. I had Roush Mustang that had a sticker that thank the Prius owners for buying their cars to save gas so I had more for mine.

Nothing like a 8 cylinder and well worth the price of admission.
Honestly, I completely agree with you.

If I buy a new SS I have decided that's its going to be my Daily Driver. But I'm really not interested in buying a car that gets poor gas mileage as a daily. And when I say poor.....anything under 14mpg is poor IMO. I understand that its a V8 and the heavy foot syndrome....trust me I've had both. I was just curious of what people were getting and if the reviews were showing more of that heavy foot than normal daily driving.

This past weekend took three buddies on a trip to the track. 139 miles round trip. Mostly back roads, curvy, some speed, bumpy, slow down for tractors, etc. Then about 10 miles of freeway each way, up to 100mph once to show off, maintained about 70-75mph. The DIC said I averaged 20.2 mpg. I calculated my mpg by how much gas it actually took to fill her back up and came up with 19.4 mpg. I ain't complainin'. Only has 700 miles on her now. Gotta watch the sudden foot action!!! It's hard not to. LOL

I'm at 650 miles and about to put in the 4th tank of gas. This last fill up was around 17 gallons and according to the car computer I'm getting 14.4 mpg. FYI, its still cold here in Chicago and I let my car warm up every morning for about 10 minutes and that always makes me lose about .5-.7 MPG on the computer. Hopefully this next tank the weather will stay warmer and I can only warm her up for about a minute or so.

Mileage

I'm at 5200 miles now. DIC reads 16.9 combined city/hiway. Have gotten 21.4 and 21.9 on trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin NV. about a month apart. 270 miles each way to each destination. Only burn Top Tier gas, Chevron or Shell 91 Octane. Quite pleased with fuel economy for my heavy right foot.

The numbers I'm seeing here are almost as good as I get with the 5.3 in the '07 SS. But of course my right foot is about 3 sizes bigger/heavier than my left - lol! The 5.3 will do 25+ under 70mph, but who in TX drives under 75? If I can get 18-19 highway considering TX speed limits, I'll be elated. As has been said - really doesn't matter. The hard part will be controlling and re-training the right leg.

Sorry guys, but who cares.......
Well....judging from the responses.....I'd say that there are those who care.....at least to a small extent, anyway.

This much is certain, though.....knowing what to expect and what you're getting (as far as MPG goes) is a good thing. One of the first indicators you'll have, short of a CEL, in knowing something is 'wrong' with the car is a sudden drop-off in mileage. It just makes too much sense to pay at least some attention to this.

However.....if you REALLY care about getting performance out of your car, gas mileage on the whole is (or should be) a minor concern.

David

Can confirm^^^-1600 miles on the ODO, total life MPG is 16.4. Took a couple of trips on the interstate doing 72-75MPH with cruise on, and averaged 24.7mpg for a distance of 213 miles and averaged 25.1mpg doing 70mph with cruise control, for a total of 280 miles on 2nd trip. I get 16-17 around town. Not sure what, if anything the altitude (6600ft here in the springs) up here has on the mileage. All we can get is 85,87, and 91 octane out here. I run the shell 91 octane. Just my 2 cents.

Normal 17.9 with Mobil 1 at 800 miles 15 to 20 mile trip about 10 miles in stop and go 75 mile per hour interstate. About 45 mph in traffic some red lights. This is my daily lunch drive it goes down if I hammer it.

Fuel economy will be a concern for me in deciding to go with as SS or not for our next car, particularly highway mileage since that is where we put on most of our miles. The SS according to EPA estimates gets fairly lousy fuel economy compared to a Camaro SS with basically the same engine (close enough..) same transmission, same rear end gearing, and essentially the same weight. Not sure why, but if the EPA estimate is accurate I would be hesitant to buy one. I would like having a fuel range of at least 450 miles on the highway before the fuel light comes on, since we do a fair amount of long distance driving.
