So you guys know the inventory search results we are seeing on the Chevrolet site include all SS's invoiced and in transit; or will be on dealer lots when they get there and not entered into the system as sold and delivered to a customer.

It does not matter whether it is a retail stock order or a retail sold order or whether the dealer has a deposit on it. All show up on the search.

So if you are calling around looking to buy or see or test drive (good luck on that one!) and they tell you its sold believe them.

If you plan on seeing one live and in person I strongly recommend calling and verifying it is still on the ground like 2 minutes before you leave to drive to the store. I got a gut feeling the unspoken for ones will sell real quick excepting at the stores where they throw an ADP sticker on it!

I definitely agree with the above statement. Call before you go!

BUT, I don't think these will move as fast as you think. And thanks to GM its November now.....which means its holiday season. Most people are preparing for Christmas already (families). Which to be honest the majority of SS owners will have families (my 2 cents). I don't see many young adults (high school or bachelors) driving the new SS. Not when you can get a brand new Mustang, Camaro, or used Vette for the same price if not cheaper. I myself went through this in 2006 when I was single and wanted a CTS-V, but ended up with a barely used (only 1500 miles) Z51 C6 sitting my garage.

So if the SS coming to your local dealer has a deposit on it then you are SOL. But if its flagged as Retail Stock you probably have a good chance to at least sit in it and maybe test drive one.

For this very reason my wife and I are thinking we might wait until late December early January to go scoop one up. Might get a deal if ones been sitting on the lot for to long.

Once again this only my 2 cents....

All this makes sense to me. They are delivering so few of the SS to America, and almost all of the ones that they are delivering are already sold to people. The chances of getting to test drive one is pretty slim IMO.

How long will it be before they send out more SSs that are just retail stock? Is that even going to happen?

The assumption by most was that the flagship dealers will have at least one but from how I see it, it still seems that what ever SS sedan we see on the lot will be one that's already called for , no luck

I have now talked to 3 different Dealerships here locally.

Not one of the cars they are receiving is SOLD. One of those dealers is receiving 3 (Black, Silver, and White).

With none of those being sold, what would the chances of test driving one be like? Seeing how 'exclusive' they might view them to be, they might not allow it, some might.

I actually bought my Vette at the one getting 3. So I'm hoping that history will get me behind the wheel of one.

Before I step into financing I'm driving one. But honestly I'll be happy with sitting in one or simply hearing the exhaust in person until I get the pen ready for paper.

Well considering what you own and might have owned, your chances are good. It's just that some sales people at dealers may not take some seriously or be anal and not let people get in and drive the SS.

The least they can do for us is to take us for a spin in it while we're in the passenger seat.

I know the dealer I work for is at last check getting 9, but between 5 of our stores. (not revealing who I work cause I am here to hang not sell cars, I do that 70 hours a week as it is.) anyways. So far 3 are sold. myself, one other employee and one retail customer. I agree with chevypwr, dealers do tend to be anal about this only because the car is going to be rare. I think what I may do is actually leave mine at the dealer in the showroom and if someone has a great interest in it, take them for a spin. Plus a great excuse to drive the piss out of it ;)

Must be a tough day in the office if you have to take your car for a spin :D

Boss: Hey Steve, can you take this customer for a (boss turns away from
Steve for a moment)

Steve: Vroom (rapidly accelerates out the dealership with said customer on board)

Boss: (boss turns back to Steve) Spin... Steve......Steve? Where'd you go? (looks out window to see the tail of Steve's car disappear)

:D

I doubt dealers are gonna be willing to let all but the most serious 'known' past hi performance purchasers test drive these beasts.

Maybe a little so more than a say cts-v or corvette 427, Z06 or ZR1 because our cars will have a few miles on them from the grand travels they have had from Australia.

But with all Hi-performance/limited production cars ... even 25 test drive miles on the clock will keep a buyer from bringing her home.

I looked at a CTS-V Sportwagon last February that was an auto show display car. The $3K auto show discount off the invoice was nice but you could not use the rebate or private offer cert on it so it wasn't a deal. It had 100 miles on the clock. It was pristine and the interior was not abused .... BUT the rear tires showed massive evidence of more than just one or 2 smokey-firey burn outs! The tires were half worn out and wheel wells had a lot of rubber on them!

I have instructions to not drive my car when it arrives unless I am present. I'm even driving her to get the GM paid for first tank of gas for 2 reasons .... I want to make sure it is PREMIUM and I don't want a lot guy or tech testing her limits!

You think like I do will tank mine up and no body takes the plastic off interior or wash's it besides me oh and no dealer stickers. I'm 70 and seen it all, work out 3 days week 23,000lbs a day and run 3.5 miles 3 days old Marines keep at it never know when we may need to take back this country.

YUP! ... and I'm going to watch while they do the 'limited' PDI and put the PA inspection stickers on and take off the rear rotor protectors and the blocks out of the front spring which I think they will still have in them when they arrive.

The biggest worries I have are knowing they are using the correct lifting points because of the underbody aero panels and of course putting rags on the lift pads and torquing the wheels to 140 lb ft in the correct star pattern .... so many guys don't understand the importance of correct wheel torquing procedures nor do it.

Just got back from Keyes Chevy here in the valley. Looked around the lot but could not find the SS's. Asked a salesguy who was helping another customer and he told me the red SS was about a block away at the wash bay and I could walk over there to look at it. All I can say is I am more impressed now that I've seen it in the flesh. It was unlocked so we opened up the doors to look inside but did not sit in it since there was no sales guy around and the guys washing the cars were looking at us suspiciously! LOL But the interior looks fantastic....very classy. The car was red and the red is really nice. If I get an SS eventually it will definitely be red. A sales guy eventually came over to ask if we needed any help. We talked briefly and he offered me a test drive, but I declined since I'm still about a year away from the end of my lease and I did not want to do something really stupid today financially! Anyway, I'm glad I took a drive over to look at the SS. It is one **** of a nice machine!

Oh, also, both of their SS's are unsold. The have this red one and a black one. The general manager has the black one at the moment, but the sales guy told me both are for sale currently, so anyone in so cal who is looking for an SS now, head on over to Keyes.

Should they have to remove the wheels to remove the rear rotor protectors and the blocks in the front ?
