I test drove a SS last Monday. I LOVED IT!

I had a 2010 Camaro 1SS with a L99/Automatic configuration. I loved the car, but the L99 with its active fuel management (AFM) lifter problems and failed repair attempts caused me to get rid of that car a couple of years ago. I need an automatic tranny since I have some knee injuries from a work incident long ago. That's why the SS having a LS3 (no "darn" AFM) is a dream come true (for me)!

The only thing that was somewhat annoying (keep in mind I'm a large/fat guy) was the seat bolsters on the bottom seat cushion. During the test drive, they were digging into my thigh enough to become somewhat uncomfortable after only 5 minutes of driving.

Has anyone else noticed this and if so were you able to get any modification done to the seat foam padding to mitigate the issue?

The dealership and I were about $3500 apart on total out-the-door difference so I did not buy it that day. This seat issue also was a concern.

I haven't had an issue with the bolsters digging in, but i'm pretty skinny. 6'0 and barely 160lbs. Regarding the seats, I noticed my thighs hang over the edge of the seat a bit more than my GTO, so it doesn't feel as supportive. Still messing with my seat adjustments to get that right feel, it's getting better, probably was used to sitting a certain way since the GTO was a stick and this one of course isn't.

Even with a lot of seat adjustments, I still find the front left seat bolster a bit too aggressive (digs into my left leg).

If I lift my left foot a bit off of the dead pedal/foot rest, it would ease the pressure on my leg.

I found a group buy taking place on camaro5.com for dead pedal covers for the 5th gen Camaro. I contacted the company (Ultimate Pedals Custom Aluminum Vehicle Pedals - ULTIMATE PEDALS ) and they stated they make dead pedal covers for the G8 and they can make one for the SS.

I ordered a dead pedal cover and it arrived today. I installed the pedal cover placing a few washers behind each of the two top side screws so that would tilt out the pedal cover a bit more.

Now when I sit in the driver's seat I don't feel as much pressure on my left leg.

Only time will tell if this truly fixes it, but so far so good.

I like the cover. Can you give us an idea on price?

The pedal cover was $78 plus $12 shipping.

The camaro5.com group buy was at a cheaper price but it was for a different pedal cover than what I ordered.

To place the order on their website I had to order this:

2015 Chevrolet SS (sedan)

Robert Baylor stated I must specify this item is for the car listed above and that I need a "foot rest" instead of the "heelguard".

Products
------------------------------------------------------
1 x Chevrolet Camaro (2010-Present) Heelguard (5284) = $78.00
Finish Frosted Smooth with Domed Grip Insert
Here's the link to the page where the "heelguard" is located for ordering:

Thank you LS3ss! I just bought my SS a couple weeks ago and the only problem I'm having is with the bolster putting pressure on my leg as well. Keep us updated on your findings. I will definitely do this if you find it helps long term.

Thanks again!

I believe I've partially resolved the seat bolster pressure issue about 50%.

I may need to add a thicker spacer behind the dead pedal plate to elevate the top of the plate.

I'm going to drive the car with the plate as it is for a few more days and then I'll adjust again to see if that truly helps more.

I am a tad over 6 ft, and hover around 215. So, I am not a small guy at all. I wish the dead pedal was more pronounced. I find myself bending my left leg about 90 degrees to get comfortable. Unless I move the seat forward, but then my right knee hits the steering wheel. That is probably the only feature that I think Chevy got wrong. The dead pedal that is. I have to stretch my left leg out to be able to rest it.

I actually like the dead pedal the way it is. it's nice to be able to stretch out my leg that far on a long drive. (I,m 6'4" 277 lbs). I wear size 15 shoes, so I can rest my heel on the ground & my toe on the plastic trim at the top. I actually have to point my toe to get my foot through the space to get to the dead pedal.

Some guys on corvette forum are having pillows Made to fit between the boosters making a flat level surface. Others are removing seat covers and drilling holes in the foam to soften them up.

I can understand this issue. Not sure who the seat is designed to fit. I imagine it's someone with a small butt but enormous shoulders. I have a 30 inch waist and the seat pan is close to correct for me, yet the seat back is way too wide and provides insufficient lateral support. I can get comfortable, so I was able to the buy the car despite the seats. If you can't get comfortable, the best answer might be not to buy the car. Seats have airbags in them and changing them is not a good option. Or drop a lot of weight, your SS will then be faster too.

After driving a few more days with just the dead pedal cover and a couple of washers behind the top two holes to tip out the top of the cover, I've decided that the cover/washers configuration was not enough.

I located some 1/8" x 2 1/2" wide black plastic (an old OEM front air dam from my Chevy SSR). I cut two sections of the plastic for a total thickness of 1/4".

Just sitting in the car with the dead pedal cover configured this way, it seems "better". I'll test this configuration for the next couple of weeks.

The additional 1/4" spacer was "better", but again not enough.

I acquired another piece of plastic (another Chevy SSR original air dam) and cut it like I did a few days ago. I now have 1/2" thick "spacer" and then the billet dead pedal cover.

It seems better during my initial test (sitting in the garage).

I'll give this a try for a few days.

Just got my SS today and I've got the same problem with the bottom seat bolster digging into thigh/left butt cheek. I'm hoping that the bolster starts to give a little as I drive it.

Anyone try like a3/4" gel seat pad? I'm going to buy one on amazon I found I think for like $75.

I bought a foam cushion to alleviate this same issue but its like 1.5" thick so too much. While it helps the butt and thighs I don't like my back being that much higher on the seat.

I'm confident the thinner gel pad with great reviews does the job.

Interestingly enough I'm also tall like a poster above, 6 4 225, and my left side is completely fine in the SS. It's the right side that I have issues with.

I started a thread about a month ago insulting the seat make, got some decent advice there for seat alignment but it has only helped so much. Darn bolsters and thinly padded seat!!!

Funny thing is I noticed this on my first test drive in which dealer put me into an Impala right after and thought to myself it was way more comfortable than the SS.

Hope this decision to buy SS doesn't bite me in the behind.
