So I visited two dealers today to look at the SS. Both dealers had drilled the front license plate onto the car! I'm told one of them I wouldn't buy it now that it had holes drilled in it. He told me that because you're required to have a front plate in Mass that they HAVE to put them on. For some reason I don't believe him. The ZL1 Camaro next to it in the showroom didn't have one. To which I was told, they just hadn't put it on yet.

I'm thinking you can get the car without them putting the bracket on and tell them you will do it. I don't see how they could be at fault if I was pulled over on the street after leaving the lot without one. I would imagine that would be my fault and I would be ticketed.

Texas requires a front plate but the dealer still did not drill any holes in the car. The front plate bracket was in the spare tire well in the trunk. Its now on a shelf in the garage since my car will be registered in OK.

My car was in VA and they riveted the plate holder on. Don't need it in NC. I ordered a new lower grill to fix the issue.

I bought my SS in Illinois but since my car was being registered in Florida I also didn't want the front bracket drilled on. Before I signed my papers, I made sure the brackets were not screwed on and would not be screwed on. And as far as the dealership goes, they don't supposed to add the bracket unless you want it there. The dealership never had a problem with me telling them not to add the bracket. Your dealership just tried to justify why they did it. Even though some states do require a front plate, they don't supposed to automatically drill holes on the front bumper for the bracket unless you say so.

What are they asking for the lower grill if you don't mind my asking.
Dealer cost is around $170. Check with [email protected] for retail.

My dealer knew of my desire to not have it, but when they found the car at the other dealer, it was already done. VA dealer should have known better. New grill is at dealer cost. And I will have an extra for when I sell the car down the road.
Oh well.

Nish, are you still in Chicago?

Same here in Illinois, dealer asked me about the front plate which I politely told them no way. Also, declined them wanting to put their dealer sticker on my car. No thanks.

Yep, I'm aware that Illinois requires a front plate, but I'll just take my chances and deal with it if it comes up.

Apologies for necroing a 6 month old thread but I've searched the forum and haven't found an answer. Is there a manufacturer like SLP or Show & Go that offer alternatives for the front tag required states, like me?

Just to beat the dead horse a little more... Ohio chiming in here. Require front/rear plates. I told the dealer I would "install" the front plate myself and they shouldn't touch anything up front. I just didn't say when I would install it :)

I did the same thing, 7 months later still no front plate with no plans on putting one on.

sadly my car's plate bracket was already installed so I'm stuck with it. I would have run a front plate just to avoid an excuse to pull me over, but would have fabricated a more flattering way to install it.

I ended up ordering the show & go front tag. I'll be sure to post up pics once installed.

Bought my SIM car in Maryland where a front plate is required. Pennsylvania, where I live, does not require a front plate. Dealer had already put on the black plastic front plate bracket by drilling the bumper cover. I asked that they remove the mount and install polished black plastic hole plugs which they did and did a nice job of it. You really have to look carefully to see that the plugs are in place. Sure I'd rather the holes were not there but this is a way to deal with them inexpensively.

Never understood the fuss over a number plate. If you have to have it then have if not don't. I am all for people obeying rules and if they don't like them either get them changed or move.
It's no fuss at all, just don't put it on and be done with it. The whole state of TX requires front plates, moving to another state that doesn't just for that reason would be a bit ridiculous.

Really. How ridiculous would you sound if you told someone that you moved because your state was a two tag state. That's a tad extreme.

chinamonty, if you are a car enthusiast and you don't get why most other car enthusiasts don't want an ugly tag up front, well I can't help you.
