I would like to start off by saying I was not a fan of this feature to begin with. I Never thought I would use it...

The forward break assist has 4 selective modes, Off, On 1 car length, On 1/2 a car length and On 1/4th Car length. All different foreword motion breaking sensitivity settings work identically. My understanding was that this system would never activate unless collision was immanent, and when it did activate it would bring the vehicle to a stop.

I was wrong, this system works incredibly and at the right setting, is not intrusive at all, it actually might end up saving the car one day, or save the life of the mate who pulled out in front of you and hit the breaks..

Like Tapshift, this system is fluid and will gracefully apply the breaks just to let you know you are approaching the fixed object or car rather quickly, and if you don't follow up with some breaking of your own it will gradually increase braking force. Once you start getting on the breaks the system backs off.

The radar system this vehicle uses is substantial. It has 360 degree vision and can pick up a car 100+ meters in front of you. More importantly, Below approximately 10 MPH the system will not engage so don't count on it at low speeds. Could end up kissing somebody's bumper if you instill to much confidence in this feature and get lackadaisical.

I have been keeping it on the lowest setting, when the wife drives I set it at the highest sensitivity. She enjoys riding to closely and enjoying her iPhone. :bangheadonwall:

What??? I thought I read everything there was about this car. I know it has collision warning alerts but never heard about any automatic braking.
Is this mentioned somewhere in the manual?

I don't think the US bound cars will have this wonderful feature in full scale. I think all we get is the warning and the driver will have to do ALL the braking.

Brake assist actually , as per mentioned in the owners manual, helps to provide maximum, controlled braking when it perceives that you are asking for it(hard braking). It uses the stabilitrack system to perform this.

FCA is a warning system only and DOES NOT apply the brakes.

Brake assist hits the brakes harder after you hit them in emergency stopping situations.

I don't have a clue where this comes from!

Doesn't this system simply move the front pads closer to the rotors to cut down on reaction time??

Yeah that's what I thought. But I've been wrong many times before.
I do have adaptive cruise control that applies up to 25% braking when the car gets to within one of the 3 settable distances. I never thought I'd use it but have grown to like it.
Funny thing about that forward collision warning. Every time I curve left, with a lot of telephone poles on the right, while moving fairly brisk, I get the warning.

So you are saying the SS has adaptive cruise control even thought the owner's manual doesn't mention it and contradicts it by saying the FCA turns off the cruise control???

It DOES NOT have adaptive cruise control.

SORRY...forgot to mention that's my Charger R/T Max. Don't think I'll have an SS 'til next year.

Yeah I think it's just a warning. I have yet to feel it brake for me and in Vegas it goes off a lot!

You guys have really yet to see/feel the car break for you? Make sure the system is actually on, adjust the gap sensitivity to the max (you can only see this menu on the HUD while cycling through the settings using the button on the steering wheel.

The button is located on the steering wheel, when sitting in the drivers seat, top left button. Make sure your HUD is on and visible, then push that hoe.

Carefully, attempt to swoop up on a car in front of you. Let me know what happens.

As others have stated, the SS does NOT brake for you at all, ever. It only warns you if there is closure between your car and one in front of you. I have never had it beep erroneously so I believe it works well.

I do have a question, has anyone had issues with park assist? I don't know if I need to calibrate the sensors somehow, but I have yet to get this car to park itself. I know it does, I just haven't gotten it to work for me. Please don't tell me how to use the feature as I do know this part, just if you've had trouble with it. Thanks!

It works, just have to activate the feature before you come up to a space. It has to sense the full room for the car from the front sensors.

So Cal Driving

All...I've raced for years and do like the "Crash Avoidance" features in this car...However, I honestly had to turn off the frontal crash avoidance sensors as this completely just freaked me out when trying to get around cars and merging into traffic...(People said they don't feel the brakes applied but I can honestly say; yes the brakes apply depending on your setting)...

Regarding the "Park Assist"...I'm from the old school I will still park the car based on my abilities...Nice feature though for those that's cannot park...

That is kind of strange because the manual does mention a "mild deceleration" but also specifically states, "...does not apply the brakes.":unsure:

Page 9-41 - Collision Alert

When your vehicle approaches another detected vehicle too rapidly, the red FCA display will flash on the windshield. Also, eight rapid high-pitched beeps will sound from the front. When this Collision Alert occurs, the brake system may prepare for driver braking to occur more rapidly which can cause a brief, mild deceleration.

On the other hand page 9-40 includes a Warning, which states, "FCA is a warning system and does not apply the brakes."

(Probably reduces engine power as it does in ESC. My guess.)

The forward collision alert system doesn't activate the brakes in an active manner. It is more a passive system which readies the breaking system by tensing up the brake lines and moving the pads closer to the disc. thereby reducing reaction times by fractions of a second.

Another time you can use the park feature is if you want to freak a passenger out who doesn't know the car can do it. Why? cos I like scaring people :D
