Anyone else browse the Holden website and drool at the cars that GM is hiding away from us? If the Maloo was sold here I would def get one. I have a sportbike and I'm about to get a dirt bike hence the Maloo R8 would be perfect. I'm thinking of writing to GM and telling them to send more Australian goodness to the US.

Been doing it for years. If you really want to feel bad, look at the HSV site.

Yeah its very popular with the two wheeled groups because 1) its comfortable, 2) its pretty low so much easier to ramp up the bike, 3) its got enough room for 1-2 bikes and gear/basic tools, 4) convenient, 5) easier to maneuver, and 6) takes up much less room than having a trailer.

Ive always wondered why GM cant seem to find the business case to have the full Holden compliment sent or why a ute or wagon was never included in the first place. The ute especially would be the only one in that segment, and I think would be a higher seller than the sedan.

Because they wanted to close down Holden and if they started selling the Ute and the Sportwagon in the U.S. it might be the thing that gave Holden the sales figures to remain a viable manufacturing factory.

Oh man, the more I go thru that site the worse I feel.
Are the 'HSV Senator' parts compatible with the SS? I love those tail lights and the carbon fiber interior trim. I thought I saw the taillights on ebay but they were over $2000!
For the most part yes all the parts are compatible with the SS (legal issues aside for the tail lioghts) apparantly the lights can be fitted with minor mods o the rear bumper. Front bar is a straight swap in theory

Very true, they even killed off Holden's Middle East export program.

Its sad when a good company making great products and having efficient, hard working and passionate workers (Holden) all get shafted by an outside party (GM HQ)

You are absolutely right! Holden has been proven performer and a quality product, yet GM puts it on the chopping block while keeping lesser brands. The news of GM shutting down Holden stings us here in the US, but it is obviously to a much greater degree for those of you down under.

I find it odd that they are doing this. GM is always trying to compete with BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc. And here they have a car that reviewers are saying comes very close to those levels and what do they plan to do, close the company down. I don't get it.

Is it safe to assume that once 2017 has past if the SS is still around that it will 'not' be the same quality car that it is currently?

Holden was killed by previous naive Australian governments who would come home from international trade talks and actually believe everyone was going to adopt free trade universally. So they opened up Australia's markets and everyone that had ever screwed a car together came rushing in. Other markets maintained their barriers.

The result is the largest range of motor vehicles offered for sale than anywhere else on the planet. This destroyed economies of scale for local car manufacturers, resulting in their demise. It was successive Australian governments that destroyed Holden, not GM.

The current mob seem **** bent on destroying manufacturing and making Australia the world's quarry. They have already approved projects guaranteed to destroy the Great Barrier Reef (some say within 5 years), for the sake of a few short term bucks.

What are the chances of getting those chrome outside mirrors? I'm interested in a Phantom Black but don't like the fact that the outside rear view mirrors are flat black on the upper half.
The upper mirrors are painted the same color as the car, not flat black. The chrome mirror caps were an accessory offered on the G8 and if I'm not mistaken, the G8 and SS mirrors should be the same.

I had the chrome mirror caps on my G8. I think I got them from GMpartsdirect dot com.

Nope, they're flat black. I've looked at 4 different cars here. All the same. If they were painted Phantom Black I wouldn't want to change them but since they're not I'm going for the Chrome. (a la Audi S4)

They look nice on the G8 too.
That's odd. I wonder if that's unique to the PBM cars, because all other colors seem to have body color mirror caps. The mirror caps on these cars seem to be shiny, though, not flat black. Am I missing something?

I have seen two PBMs in person, though I don't recall looking at the mirrors closely enough to recall this particular detail. In any case, you should still be able to order the chrome caps.

I was also going for a pseudo-Audi S4 look as well, but the chrome caps also stand up to bugs and stuff hitting them over time. Didn't take long for my red caps to get pitted and nasty-looking (especially from love bugs, ugh!).

I experienced the same confusion and was straightened out on this forum. Yes, apparently it IS unique to only PBM vehicles except, I think, there have been some with the "scalps" painted a gloss black, but not PBM! :shithappens:
