Faded trim

I have a '17 SSB with 18,500 miles on it that's either carported or covered with good quality cover most of the time. I've noticed for a couple years that there's this sort of trim that runs along the edges of each side of the roof, the full length, near each door. Besides that trim, on the trim are four (two per side) tab sort of things that are faded even worse.

I had car detailed today and they stood out even after expensive detail from good company. What is/are these trim pieces and tabs called and are there any ideas on how to upgrade the quality of those areas?

they do clean off this is what i use.
can try regular all purpose cleaner on rag and some rubbing, like 409, simple green ect also.

I am surprised the detail shop did not clean them or use a trim restore type product on them.

I had an issue with mine, they looked almost pitted. I had the luck of getting a pair off a low mile car that was wrecked. I'm not sure what you can do about it, they do come off really easily if you want to try sanding them and repainting them. Pop off the two rectangular covers, then you can use a screwdriver to pry them off the car. They snap back on, the clips are sturdy.

I thought that they were rubberized, no?

Ahh I think you're right, not sure what to do about it then. Probably just buy new ones, they're easy to replace.

I've been using this stuff for several years now. Each treatment last about 18 months.

That's good stuff! I use it on my SRX, which has a lot of black trim all around it. It lasts longer than others I have tried like Mothers, Mequires, Back to Black, etc.

Thx, but they aren't dirty (you mentioned how these areas clean off ). They just began fading out not long after I bought car in '17 and have seemed to get a bit weaker since. Very odd, especially the four short tabs that appear along the length of the two strips. You'd still go with cleaner, though? Would you describe your trim problem as being pretty much like mine?

Yeh, now that you mention it, so am I. Very surprised. I guess I'm going to order something from Adams and wing it.
I hit all the plastic and rubber trim couple times per year with 303 Aerospace Protectant , protects from UV and keeps them nice looking but without being greasy or attracting dust/dirt.

Ceramic coating helps make trim look newer as well. Although today I learned about some other great products thanks to this great group!

Saw sun damaged trim today on a 2019 Porsche 911 4S... Nothing in this world escapes the curse of the fall...
