F-Street Wheel/Tire Options

I'm wondering if anyone else has or is looking into wheel options for staying in F-street.

Squaring up the wheels/tires is probably ideal for track work, but for autox that puts you into much more difficult classes. On the opposite end staying with the stock wheels for a '16-'17 isnt ideal because those wheels are over 30lbs each!

The rules for a Street class require a wheel that is no wider than the factory (for the SS; 8.5" front, 9" rear), but you can go up or down 1" in diameter, and must stay within 7mm of stock offset (Stock offset is +48mm front, +57mm rear).

18x8.5 +42 front and 18x9 +50 rear would probably be the most possible to find. Something 20lbs or under would be ideal.

So far the only thing I've found for sure is the '14-'15 wheels that are lighter but not much.

If anyone finds any other options, feel free to post...

Placed an order for custom Forgestar wheels for racing in F-street! (also track days too)

Time to shop for tires, put some info together... Looking for input.

I've got ~6 weeks or so to decide, so no big hurry.

RE71s are the answer if you're looking to be competitive in autocross, but (as you noted) they wear very quickly. I also hear that they overheat very quickly at track speeds, so if you're looking for a dual purpose autoX/track day tire you may want to pass.

BFG Rival S is available in 275/35R18, which while not as fast as the RE71 on an autocross course is close enough to be competitive locally. It may also be a better fit for track events.

What were the specs on the Forgestars you ordered? I was considering getting some autoX wheels for next year, but hadn't worked out the offset/backspacing needed.

I ran RE71R's on another car I did track days and few autox with. They would get a little greasy when really hot (especially when overdriving the car) on a track day, but in line with other 200 treadwear street tires. Not as good as a true R compound tire, but not that far off. They were a good dual purpose tire you could drive to the track and back. The big downside was wear, as in the wear really fast, 4-5 days at most. The rivals last a lot longer, but have a good deal less grip as well.

I had RE71R's on my BRZ, autox'ed and tracked with them. I also don't mind buying a new set of tires every year, I tend to do it anyway LOL

The Rival S 1.5 is actually the tire comparable to the RE71R, but only has a few sizes none of which would work. The Nexan SUR4G is winning some national level events, and has a good contingency, so it may be worth a shot.

The forgestars I ordered are 18x8.5 +41, 18x9 +50.

I am a little concerned about something else... Here is my front tire currently with 1.5 degrees of camber, there is about 7mm from the tire to the strut:

Even with the wheel being 7mm farther from the strut, I'm not sure how much wider of front tire I can run... Possibly 265 max? Its going to require testing possibly.
