I paid $2000 to get an extended warranty from Chevy that will last through six years or 100,000 miles

It is a comprehensive warranty with $100 deductible.

I plan to drive about 16,000 miles per year so the 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty will expire in about 2 years 4 months.

I can cancel this and get my money back if I cancel in the next 4 weeks

Do you think this warranty is worth it?

Pros:
- limited production SS so parts may be really expensive (?)
- if electronics have issues could be very costly (?)

Cons:
- $100 deductible and I could tuck away $2000 in a separate account and take my chances
- big ticket items like transmission would already be covered through 5 yrs/100,000 so this wouldn't add value if I had that type of breakdown

Any thoughts/advice? Any third party warranties you think would be better to consider?
Or not get a warranty at all?

Thanks.

If it were me I'd do line one on your cons list- bank the money and not get a warranty. We've argued warranties on this forum before and there are many on here who swear by them. I prefer not to gamble paying for insurance on something that may happen and would prefer to keep the money myself: self insured. At the very least, check with local CUs and get a quote to compare, RBFCU has them and you can get a quote online, $50 deductible.

RBFCU.org quote: NAC Platinum 72 month/100k mile $50 deductible $1479

You don't have to have your car financed with them to get the warranty but you'd have to have the $$ out of pocket. Or, they are going as low as 1.65% if that is lower than what you got (if you financed).

With a extended warranty, you have to read the fine print on what they do and don't cover. The salesman/finance might tell you it's bumper to bumper, but the vast majority of them that I have to deal with are not. They are for the most part, component coverage. Most of them will not cover batteries, minor trim items and such. Make sure you know what you are buying! I have seen quite a few where they will not cover simple items like sensors, relays, gasket or any of the fluids if they need to be replaced under "warranty". Also it's a misconception that GMPP, is a GM extended warranty, it's not. It's owned by Ally Bank. While they are pretty good, they do sometimes have their quirks too in what they do and don't cover.

I waited till right before 24 months and 24,000 miles to buy for my z06. Bought in Aug of 11 it's a 2012 my cost was around 2100 for no deductible and warranty goes dead in 2018 96000 and change mileage. Ken Fitchner I maybe wrong on spelling is in Montana will give you some of the lowest prices I've seen that's Fitchner Chev. google them. There are a few states Florida being one that will not allow him to sell their its a closed market the dealers there will rip you a new one.
