Is anyone working on...or thinking of coming up with...a way to make the LED Daytime Running Lights stay on the entire time the car is started? Including when the headlights are on and all? I think it'd be a nice mod.
Been thinking about how to do it as well. First thought was the fuse box, I'll start there. those lights look way too good to only be on when your in gear & the sun is up.

:eek:k:

If the SS has the same setup as the Commodore, you can have the DRL's and the headlights on at the same time if you switch the headlights to manual on and not auto on.

I should be able to do custom programming to make this happen without issue :)
I was just about to say for the OP to contact you, but you saw it already.

Possibly a relay modification can be made to achieve this. Similar to how on GTOs you can remove a prong from a relay to allow the fog lights to be on while the high beams are on.

Hmm, why I am not surprised to see you on these forums lol.

Is GTPPrix a programming master? How do you program DLRS? :O
I don't know him, but he can re-program the BCM in our Chevy's to do things that the factory did not intend to. BCM stands for "Body Control Module". It is one of several control computers in modern cars. The BCM controls many systems including lighting and the sequence that things happen when we push a button or turn a switch.

I just tried what you suggested - no go.
I can either have the DRL's on, or the headlights - not both.
As far as i know it is only HSV that has Dual function Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs)

I'll quote the HSV brochure: -
"The dual function lamp runs as a Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) and a Position Lamp meaning they can
be seen at night, at a slightly lower intensity, in conjunction with the headlights."

IThat's correct. The HSV have a dual stage DRL. When headlights are on the DRL has a reduced intensity. Much like the Silver GTS LSA I was sitting next to at the lights earlier, My ride had way more torque :D but way less HP

Big Rig problems :)

i just tapped a wire from the yellow headlight power to the drl violet green wire with a 15amp fuse in between. they now come on with headlights. also can do the same for the fogs if u wanted em to come on with those. will find out tomorrow if they still function normally during the daytime but for now they work great and looks alot better

Do your headlights come on with the DRLs? You need to use a relay or diode to prevent back flow. I hope you haven't damaged your BCM module. The DRL LEDs only need about 1 amp, so the BCM is not rated to power the headlights and will likely fry the DRL output circuit. You should read the lengthy thread in the SS How-To Forum "DRL Operation w/ Headlights On "

I have a module that is designed specifically for the Chevy SS (and Commodore SSV, etc. in Australia) to provide dimmed LED operation at night. There is also a GEN 5 DIY cable adapter that enables the DRLs at full brightness with headlights on.
