What do you guys think about the chrome-plated door handles on the 2014 Chevy SS? Do they need to go?

I always liked having body colored door handles since it gives the car a cleaner higher profile look, chrome door handles just don't do it for me. They're cool on classic Chevy's and maybe Cadillac's but I feel they shouldn't be on our Chevy SS.

Are they actually chrome or are they the cheap polished aluminum like the ATS? I held the top of a Coke can up to the handles on the ATS and both had the same finish. I would not buy a car at that sort of price with door handles made of Coke can lids!

Sometimes. Usually it depends on the car and color. I like the chrome trim package on the F150 and in black. I haven't made my mind up yet on this the SS.

The VF commodore has body colored door handles and it looks far better IMO than these chrome door handles.

This should be one more thing added as an option, chrome door handles and body colored door handles as the standard. I think we all can agree on that!

Door exterior pull handles are plastic on these cars. The Caprice PPV handles are finished in a rough-surface no-gloss black, and, assuming they are the same fit/form/function for VF--which is likely--might be the better choice to use for refinishing to your chosen body color as opposed to buying VF handles, unless they're offered in a kit.

It will be possible to find some PPV handles as take-offs in the Caprice owners community--I know I plan to change mine at some point, and I'd offer them up for an SS owner who wanted to do a color handle mod--it would be cheaper than getting the parts individually from Oz, even though there would be some added prep work prior to painting to get a smooth finish on the PPV handles.

The other option is to look at the G8 accessory handles, which are chrome in the grip area, with body color on the flat exterior surface--a bit less intrusive compared to the chromed surface appearance on the pre-production SS.

Then again, if enough "noise" is made in the right place, the final SS specs might be steered to full-painted handles in body color, like the VF Holden, but don't expect it as an option--it will be one or the other.

That looks much better in my opinion that the SS door handles, just never a big fan of chrome door handles and just chrome in general. I only like it when it's used appropriately.

But even better and cleaner looking are the Commodore VF handles which I love!

Same thing the V8 equipped G8s have. A lot of G8 owners swapped out to V6 G8 handles which are solid body color; no chrome on them.

Gots to go. I hate how some manufacturers still equate luxury/quality to chrome. The more chrome the higher quality of car right? Wrong, evolve already.

From what I have read and when I looked at the VF SS close up the handles while similar are different. Because of the new corporate GM keyless entry system they had to modify the handle to cater for Keyless entry. Thats not to say that they wont be similar to other GM product already in NA.

I'm willing to wager the way we see the car now is the way that we will get it in the US. I.E. "chrome" trim everywhere. I'm not crazy about it but there are ways to correct.

If it was actual chromed metal pieces I'd be OK with it. Its the cheap plasti-chrome that is as tacky as all get out with me. Body color or gloss black would be more "sporting". I'd even go for actual satin brushed aluminum, not a satin sticker either. I say give em the heave ho.

i dont think the G8 door handles will work on the new SS, their is small flush button? at the end of the handle section, may need to use parts from Berlina SV6 & SS VF models, Omega will be flat black, & calais will be fake chrome.

interesting thing is the chrome was added for the us market.

That button is probably keyless entry unlock. Fob in your pocket, press button on door handle to unlock car.
