As expected, Chevrolet Racing will be back in action for the 2014 season.

With an all-new C7 Corvette Stingray released last year, it comes as no surprise that a Corvette C7.R follows shortly behind it. Destined for the newly formed TUDOR United SportsCar Championship as well as Le Mans, the C7.R will be based on the Z06; also debuting in Detroit. Unlike most racecars in the TUDOR series, the C7.R shares a common structure with the production based Z06. The new racecar’s structure is reportedly 40% stiffer than that of the C6.R.

Chevrolet wants the C7.R to be the most potent Corvette racer to date; a hard feat to accomplish considering the success of the C5-R and C6.R. Part of the strategy includes using direct injection on the C7.R’s V8 that will net a 3% fuel savings; enough to eliminate an entire pit stop during a 24 hour endurance race.

The C7.R will make its public debut in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show January 13th, 2014. The car will then make its competition debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, in Daytona Beach, Fla., on January 25, 2014. Of course, the new C7.R continues to use an updated version of the Jake logo; the unofficial mascot of the Corvette Racing team.

That was pretty cool, watching the convoy of Stingrays doing an escort. Anyone see the Caprice PPVs?

Being originally from that area, was good to see them rolling down I696 and I75. Good stuff!
