I wonder if Car and Driver actually reviewed/tested the cars or just compared specs and performance from another source?

Spoiler Alert:
Picked up the issue! Great Read! I like how they justified the price and tested a comparable optioned SRT-8! They also describe better lateral grip than the current S6 and M5, keep in mind this comparo was done in the rain... Also noted the interior surpasses that of the SRT-8 and they mention the SS has the better transmission of the two. 6spd auto vs the SRT's 5spd...
Oh, and I will add, seeing the cars in a picture side by side makes the SS look so much better. The SRT looks like a block on wheels whereas the SS looks like a work of art with its curvy lines and fender flares!

Pretty nice improvement when you compare to C/D G8 GXP test results:

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 4.7 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 11.4 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 19.3 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 5.2 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.3 sec @ 109 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 146 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 156 ft
Roadholding, 200-ft-dia skidpad: 0.85 g

Though I was still hoping that it might have beaten the SRT-8 with the weight advantage.

4.5? Knew it would be faster than what GM is advertising. Pretty much exactly the same performance numbers as the GXP.

Also, hoollly crap look at how heavy the SRT is! Thats why it needs so much HP. Just think what the SS would do if it had the exact same hp numbers as the srt.

That's exactly why I don't understand Callaways estimate of 4.5 sec with 570HP for $20,000.??

They have no idea what they are talking about. It's not like they had installed and tested a vehicle when they even posted it. And the image they posted was obviously a photoshop.

I assume, that they are assuming, that adding a supercharger to it will cut down the claimed 0-60 time by 1/2 a second, 5.0 to 4.5 since thats what Chevrolet has advertised.

HP is cheap.

Chassis and refinement is expensive.

Mopar interiors look like a 1989 Ford Escort vomited on an early 90's Corolla, with Corinthian leather thrown in.

We know the score.
