Part # 250-315 Chevrolet SS Sedan Cold Air Intake System

This race inspired Cold Air Dam Intake System retains the stock filter location but, gives the stock intake system a big boost with the addition of a huge oversize air filter. The CAD panels, made of lightweight aluminum, keep the filter isolated from the hot engine compartment air by sealing to the underside of the hood via blade-style weatherstripping. The modular design of the system helps retain the stock location of the MAF sensor and allows for installation of aftermarket superchargers. The AIRAID® Cold Air Dam Intake is designed specifically for the 2014 Chevrolet SS Sedan and offers a simple, trouble-free installation using simple hand tools.

Will this new CAI incorporate something like that or will it just be the CAI and the curved tube that connects to the engine? And if so, will that matter if it does not include the Air Intake Resonator?

Not to down play the capabilities of the guys designing aftermarket intakes, but harmonics is something so complicated to calculate and get right on an aftermarket piece, I'd be surprised if someone made one they could prove added power. There's just too much variance on a car dyno. You'd have to get an engine and engine dyno the crap out of the intake designs to get something to work. Hendrix engineering came up with a good design on their intake elbow for the maggies that might actually work, but it played more with the same concepts of harmonic chambers and flow and flow separation control as can be observed in intake ports on cylinder heads. I'm am definitely no expert, but I've been around and been shown how much separation in the inside radius affects port flow to believe in hendrix's design concept somewhat. Harmonics is a completely different issue.
I'd me more interested to see a similar type of design employed on an intake elbow, but it's so expensive to manufacture.

Example picture (not for an SS and not available of an SS, picture just for illustration), it plays a little with the expanded chamber concept and a bit with smooth/constant radii on the shaping. The problem with designing something like this IMO is that you can't simulate harmonics on a flowbench.

And nothing against roto-fab, their CAI looks great from the pictures I've seen thus far. Hope to see more

Thanks for moving the post. I should have thought for 2 seconds before I just responded to a post off-topic.

looks good and fits perfect in place of the stock air box.

I am biased as I have the Roto-Fab, but I went that route to have a true sealed intake that isolates the air charge from the engine compartment completely. When running, the air comes from under the engine compartment and is further isolated by a polymer heatshield. I would hesitate to call it a "ram air" design, but it's probably as close as you can get without cutting a hole somewhere. I will try to post a pic from under the car some time...
The Airaid I'm sure will be a great system, but last I knew they only had the "cold air dam" portion available, which connects to the factory baffled mess that is our stock intake. My other concern is the summertime sun here in the midwest. While the dam may isolate the engine heat, the intake/filter will be sealed directly to the hood and will still be taking the heat from(in my case) a black hood in the blistering heat of a sunny day in Iowa and running it directly into the engine. If you want to know how hot that is come stick your tongue on my hood, but no selfies... :)
Again, I am admittedly biased, but love the Roto-Fab system, it's looks and it's performance.

Doesn't it pickup the air at the same place as the stock intake?
I'm not certain, but I think stock pulled from a hole in the fender wall. Hopefully someone else can chime in.?.

Okay, I had to go check under the hood to verify my own shaky memory. The intake outlet on the Roto-Fab is not as low as I thought, but does draw air from underneath and outside of the engine compartment. The ram air comparison was a bit of a stretch. :storm: I will say that it is a very isolated but large air charge. Another point of note is the material used. I won't start a debate on what material is better as far as heat or heatsoak, but will point out the difference in the two intakes and what they're made of.

For those of you with the Roto...do you think there is an increased chance for water to migrate into the intake due to the position of the inlet? I'm just wondering if there's a greater chance of the filter sucking up water than in the stock configuration. i may just go with a drop-in and call it a day.

Nope. Only way that will happen is if you try to drive under water. In that case it won't matter what intake you have, unless it's a snorkel.
