I would have to say overall the SRT is "better", but my choice would be the SS. It's not like the SRT is significantly better, maybe on the track in a time attack race. But how most will be using them, the numbers don't matter all that much.

Too many SRT's on the road, rather be different and roll in an SS which clearly isn't as common to see

SS handles sharper. I think you mean maybe in a quarter, but you get bendy bits involved and the SRT is a tug boat.

C&D be angering SRT fans

YOU MUST BE JOKING CAR & DRIVER...
#1 Uconnect Touch is the best infotainment system on the market. The GM system is LACKLUSTER.
#2 The SRT has fold down rear seats. The SS doesn't. Ever try to put a 50" TV in the Charger? YOU CAN.
#3 The SS is underpowered compared to the Charger. (obviously).
At the end of the day, the only thing hurting the Charger is the lack of the 8-speed. Fortunately the 5-speed is still solid. All you do is switch to "SPORT" mode on the highways and switch back to normal driving mode when in traffic or not driving fast.
that LAME SS is for the same people who bought the Pontiac V8 GTO thinking they'd have a car not many other people would have on the road. In the end, These SSes are so LAME nobody cares. But a CHARGER...
People get out of my way because they think I'm a cop. The cops think I'm a cop. A charger is faster, bigger, badder and TERRIFYING to people who see it in a rear view mirror.
That's what a muscle car NEEDS TO BE.

Putting a 50" TV in the SS??? That's Ummm....
Not a selling point for me. Buying a car to Imitate Law enforcement
and believing you've struck fear in someone because of your FAKE imitation police car Is in the rear view might work on drivers with a learner's permit or under the influence but, that only lasts until you're closer and its determined youre a fraud(imagine the disappointment and then relief). You're like all the other WANNABes buying RETIRED police vehicles after someone else put 90k miles on it and drilled a million and one holes in it
For mounting their equipment. Why not wait and pick a charger up at
A police auction? That's really a better point.

You are going to have die hard fans in each boat. I actually like both of these cars....a lot! I have always been a GM guy, but I'd buy a SRT8 Charger (even a SRT8 Jeep). It just comes down to what you like in a car.

In this case Dodge has the upper hand since the SRT8 has been on the market longer and actually offers options. But that will all change once GM gets final numbers and has an idea of what they can do moving forward.

I'm neutral on this subject. I'm giving a thumbs up to both. Can't beat a badass sedan grocery getter.

That comment is funny. I think the charger is oversold, the srt8 and the v6 look the same....or close to the same until you get close to it.

Everyone like he said in his post has one, including the 20 year old DBs that think they are music stars in their v6 versions.

I had a close look at the photo spread and it is easy for me to see why C&D flagged the SS as the better looking car. Yet so many comments below (and elsewhere) think the SS looks bland & dated. To me, the Charger is the dated one, and looks like a box on wheels with a big black hole in the front.

Lose the top grille on the SS and make the bottom one bigger and you have a current Audi. Lose the bottom grille & make the top one bigger and you have Merc.
Keep it as is and you have a Euro/Chev blend.

Many haven't seen the SS in the flesh and I have noticed telephoto lens's can foreshorten and make the headlights look bulbous and old fashioned compared to sleeker, sharper designs elsewhere. However, the first thing I noticed when seeing one in the flesh was how much more they swept back than photos suggested, and how much pointier that made the nose of the car look.

Did any of the new owners here notice this visual apparition when you first saw your SS?

I was driving to work this morning & a new 300C SRT8 ? pulled up next to me and had a
"6.4 Hemi" badge on the side. Is there such a thing? (I'm in Australia)
I was driving my sons SS Wagon so just idled away, but would have loved to have been in my car to have had a run...
These things go any good???

ozstrat makes a valid point... I didn't think of It until I read his comment. I remember
Looking at photos of the SS for weeks and thinking "I know I like the specs but, for some reason I just couldn't appreciate the exterior styling of the Chevy SS from the pictures online or the brochure". It wasn't until I turned into the dealers lot and saw a woman Sitting on the passenger side of this big beautiful PHB Black monster of a sedan as if she was showing the Car to the driver. I saw the car and instantly loved the exterior style and got very excited because I made an appointment to see the Car and I thought someone else had beat me to it(turns out she was my sales woman and the driver was a chevy tech). They were prepping the car for me, going over how to initiate the park assist feature.

If I had an SS, I could buy a 60" TV and have it delivered, and watch Cops on it

Yes that is the large hemi that was in the car in this article. The 300c is basically the charge but a Chrysler version.

This is exactly what I said when I saw it in person. The car looks so great. Our pictures we have on this forum does it better justice than those Chevy produced also.

I have to echo those sentiments. The online pictures do not do the car justice. In fact, after 7 weeks, I like the exterior lines even more than when I bought and my wife does as well. In fact, if my wife can't find a 2 door v-8 she likes to get in and out of (sorry, we don't like the head clearance on the Camaro), we may soon have his and her SSs.

A lot people like to look at just hp numbers and power to weight ratios however, they forget to account for well the LS3 breathes. The rectangular port heads on the Gen IV engines outflow even most aftermarket cylinder heads. There is a reason why the stroker LS6 guys switch over to LS3 heads and intake. You send the LS3 heads to a company like Advanced Inductions and have them CNC ported and you will awaken the inner monster that GM has hidden in this beaSSt. When you look at the as tested price I can take the extra $10k and port my heads, full exhaust, CAI and tune, push much more power than any SRT plus have enough dough left over to make my SS payments for the next year.
