Well I have 550 miles so far and just lovin' her!

When I got her with 5 miles she stank real bad even from 20 feet away, you know the burning stickers on the converters and the like.

Well the stank has subsided; but if I sit stopped for a couple minutes with the HVAC on fresh air and the fan on I am still getting a burning smell. Not real bad but not right. Put it on recycle and of course it stops sucking the smelly air in from the cowl and is fine. I can't decide if it's an oil or some other glue or paint like smell.

After you turn her off hot and its not breezy you can get a real faint whiff of it mainly from the driver's fender well if you stick your nose real close by the top of the tire but it is not the tire rubber smell.

I checked the oil, gave a close inspection (but not underneath my neighbor has one of his junkers half apart on his drive on) and there is nothing.

There are plenty of the same 'coming and going away' complaints for the same thing on the G8/GTO boards with no definite resolution when nothing leaking is found.

So the million dollar question is what are your Guy's and Gal's cars smelling like??

I've experienced the same smell early on, under 500 miles or so.
The rain here in the northwest kept me from extended periods of aggressive driving till last month.
I'm in an area with extensive mountain roads without a lot of law enforcement.
Some where around 2000 on the odometer I was doing a lot of down shifting for deceleration, not hard driving. I could smell the exhaust was hot again. This only happened three or four times.
Next time I smelled it was around 2500, this time I was driving hard for around 20 minuets.
Just for clarification, what I smelled was not a burning smell, just the under carriage of the car hot for the first time.
I'm at 5000+ now and have not had the smell return.

To sum it up- drive it the way it was made to drive and the smell will go away!

Welp went out after dark with mirror and spotlight and need to make a trip to my dealer....

Passenger side rear corner of oil pan just 'stained' with oil! No drops forming and not "wet' or dirty yet.

I guess the pan gasket and block porosity issues on the LS3's are still happening.

I need to see it on the lift to determine what needs to be removed to fix it.

The fun of owning a new to make limited production car with no repair experience begins. A blast to customer care here and a couple emails and phonecalls to start off my week.

Being the guinea pig just doesn't float my boat.

This should be exciting!

burning smell oil leak

Well just goes to show you you can learn something new every day!

Got the SS on the lift today; the bottom right rear quarter of the oil pan was oil stained just like typical LS3's when the oil level sensor o-ring or corner of the pan wicks oil.

Call me Shirley ... it was ONLY the bottom. Nothing on the sides at all.

My theory is the casting mold release agent was kinda heavy and it filled the very deep pores on the pan 'melting' with the heat of use.

Sprayed and wiped it with Carb cleaner and where it was stained is now spotless clean, but the rest of the pan kinda looks like the spot before cleaning. NBD it's going to get dirty and corrode anyhow. In my mind this confirms my theory. Bear in mind I was all over her underneath at 5.7 miles during the PDI and the pan was spotless.

The casting for the pan is VERY rough FYI.

They also looked for the software update for the key fob trunk opening button issue and there were no software updates at all just (what I was told) was a "TSB? about doing an update will mess things up."

I'll scope this out further with one of my sources.

The most cool thing is they had a PBM in the shop for a bad bumper sensor and it's not the SIM other one they sold!!! Amazing or what?
