So I have been snooping around for awhile and all I see is the less ethanol in the better. Well I can't seem to find in any given state what each brand of gas uses.

I hear Shell V-Power is good but almost everyone agrees Chevron is good too. I know we are suppose to use 91 in these LS3's and that's fine, I just want the best gas for the car.

Thoughts? What does everyone else see/hear, and use?

I use Chevron 93 it has 10% ethanol in it. Go to pure gas . org to find good gas live near a marina they have ethanol free gas. Also google Top tier gas. Chevron and Shell are top tier that means they have what auto MFG's call for in additives in there gas.

Using gas from the marina is the same as using heating oil in your diesel....highly illegal for both the seller and consumer because you are not paying the motor fuel tax. The die gives it away. The fines are huge. Every so often a few contractors or lawn guys get caught with the sellers around here because the sellers get to busy and attract attention to themselves. They can also go to jail!

You know there are parts of the country that sell pure gas like rural Alabama. Only city's with bad smog are required to carry 90/10 gas.
In the north GA mountains we have stations advertising 100% gas for sale. When we had the gas shortage they hauled gas in from Alabama and my Z06 loved it.

All gas has to meet strict standards and is essentially the same. The only difference is the additives added at the rack. If you stick with top tier brands you should be fine.
I hear this all the time but in the same breath I hear ethanol kills performance...so it would seem that a gas that uses less ethanol to boost octane should be better.

How much ethanol is in gasoline and how does it affect fuel economy?

In 2012, about 134 billion gallons of gasoline (3.19 billion barrels) were consumed in the United States, which contained about 13 billion gallons of ethanol, accounting for 10% of the volume of gasoline consumed.
Most of the gasoline now sold has some ethanol in it, but the exact amount varies by region. In general, ethanol will not exceed 10% by volume. Gasoline with 10% ethanol content by volume is known as E10, and with 15% ethanol is known as E15. E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.
The energy content of ethanol is about 33% less than "pure" gasoline, although this varies depending on the amount of denaturant that is added to the ethanol. Thus, vehicle mileage may decrease by up to 3.3% when using E10.
All gasoline vehicles can use E10, but currently you need a light-duty vehicle with a model year of 2001 or greater to use E15, and a "flex-fuel" vehicle to use gasoline with an ethanol content greater than E15. Most of the gasoline with more than 10% ethanol is sold in the Midwest

I use Chevron here in lala land(Ca.) Like Diehards article says it is E10. Chevron has Techron additive to keep the fuel system clean of varnishes and so forth and I beleive it definetely works. And yes your mileage suffers with the ethanol content. When I was burning 100% Methanol in my Chevelle I used more than double the amount that I would have used vs PURE race gas. But due to the oxygenating qualities of straight alky the car made about 15-25% more power. And it cost a whole lot less and still does.

I was not referring to ethanol in my statement. You can think our government and RFS2 for obligated parties who are required to blend so much fuel. Ethanol is a octane booster so I'm not sure I agree that it kills performance, however there is no doubt it kills fuel economy.

Yup. I mentioned in another post that my parents can go one county over in central Florida and get no ethanol gas because there are still a lot of farms/cattle. 10% better milage and runs smoother in their Sienna.

Since I know gas .... all gas is the same from the terminal. Sit outside and watch all the different branded and private haulers pull up to the same place. Depending on who is loading the taker a brand specific dye/additive pack is chucked in. That is the difference!

Go here: Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada

Choose your state. Will show all stations that use Ethanol free gasoline in your area.

Look how many in CT have Ethanol free gas. Yeah, sucks to live in this state.

I'll ask them which one. They live in Polk top right of county "four corners" ie where four counties meet. 10 minutes in each direction different county. The state gas tax is way less in one of them so they fill up there and save a lot per gallon but I don't think thats the county with the real gas. I'll let you know.

They said randomly in all 4 counties real gas was showing up consistently during the summer. Stopped recently. There are 'farm supply' places that always have real gas for the farm equipment the farmers and ranchers come with 55 gal drums and fill 'em up. I don't know if it is legal (motor fuel tax) to run in on road vehicles though.

Where I live (Brisbane) E10 has almost disappeared, thankfully. It was stupid to start burning food in the first place.
With all the new fracking oil available why are they still doing this? When farming methods are considered the stuff is not much cleaner than normal gas anyway, not to mention other, better uses for the feedstock. The crazy part is the energy return on energy invested is very close to 1:1, making it a waste of time anyway. The gov't mandate to produce needs to be dumped.
