Is the Chevy SS based on the same Commodore platform as the discontinued Pontiac GTO, also from Holden? I'm pretty sure I've read that it is the same platform as the Pontiac G8, which was a four door, whereas the GTO was a two door coupe. They disappeared when Pontiac was dropped as a GM brand.

C'mon, man.
I am as pissed off as anyone else at GM for all the decisions regarding the SS Sedan.
But, you have to be honest with yourself and accurate with your posts.

The aluminum additions to the SS Sedan are legitimate improvements.
The interior is an upgrade.

It's only the price and lack of a manual that is ridiculous.
This is the Internet, no one needs to be honest or accurate about anything

which are regressions from my POV, don't forget opinions are subjective

By definition, it is NOT regression.
But, I understand what you mean.

As pissed off as many of us are, we have to be realistic or we lose all credibility.
I don't think its unrealistic to feel that those upgrades at that price point are a regression. Considering we were all expecting to row ourselves in a rear drive sedan for a reasonable price, being offered aluminum pieces and interior tweeks are a SERIOUS regression from expectations.

As for credibility I agree on that, but I don't see discussion as harmful

Yes and no to it being the old Catera platform. The Catera was a rebadged Opel Omega whereas the platform under the Holden was significantly different ( widened and variable lengths for the Commodore through statesman) that no parts can be swapped from the floor pan.

Although looking at the Opel and VT Commodore of the same vintage I have wondered how similar the doors are as they appear identical.
