I use a window air conditioner at home and it drips condensation water which is very much like rain water and very close to distilled water. I get about 1-2 gallons a day. I filter this water with a coffee filter to make sure there isn't any sediments from the AC unit. I collect and store that water until it's time for a wash.

I have never tried misting with detail spray BUT for years now the final step I do before drying the car is to switch my hose nozzle to mist and go over the entire car. It makes the beads very tiny and I don't have issues with spots as long as I dry the car right after. Also, while you are washing the car, it helps to keep the car wet at all times.... never let one section dry while you are washing another. If you have a black car ( I have two), definitely was early in morning or in the evening.

This, plus the liter bottle attachment and distilled water is great for final rinse and for windows around the house.
