Hi gents and ladies (are there any?),

Some of you may know me from GMInsidenews.com as mikmak though I don't frequent the site that often at the moment. I just drop the occassional review. I'm also on twitter as @beltedradial and @loflytKULTURE among others.

Currently I own a VEII SV6 Sportwagon which I love dearly and I have driven a few of the VF Commodore models as well: SV6 and Calais Sportwagon, and Evoke Ute.

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. I'll only be visiting from time to time though, as I'm trying to run my own business, develop a vlog brand and be a dad to 3 dirt magnets!

I look forward to hearing everyones point of view when they finally get to drive the new SS. It really is light years above where the G8 left off so many years ago.

Cheers,

Mick

Welcome over here. You may know me as a regular on your twitter feed retweeting and commenting. Also on GMI.

There are a few GMI members here so familiar names will pop up like Asylum, Ozstrat just off the top of my head. I saw a new member pop up yesterday T'Cal I think he is on GMI as well.

Cheers,

Mark

There is one question I would like to ask on behalf of a few members here if you know anything more specific about the Chev SS.

Two questions that have popped up are about if the steering adjustment is manual or electric? Is it similar to the VE where by a lever is used to lock unlock the column for reach and up/down?
The second is probably more US centric, Do you know if the chev has a remote function for operationg a garage door or similar? I believe the 2014 Impala is fitted with this function. I would think the SS isn't optioned with this but hey it gets cooled seats when we don't so anyting is possible.

Cheers if you can answer any of those questions. And have you heard when Reviews may start to filter out of American motor publications. I am going to guess one or two members at GMI may get a go like NSAP or Alex

Cheers again your slowly balding headed friend,
Mark :p
OK 3 questions my math is heaps good

Considering the G8 and the SS Sedan ARE the same car, how EXACTLY is the SS "light years above the G8" ?????

You can't just drop a bomb like that and not support your statement.

I have a 2010 VE Special Edition (G8) & have recently picked up my new SSV Redline ute, 6 speed manual.

The VE doesn't have: -
Forward collision alert.
Lane departure warning.
Blind spot alert.
Electric handbrake.
Heads up windscreen display.
Self parking. (which I've never used)
Reverse camera.
Front & rear parking sensors.
Electric steering.
Hill hold.
i link entertainment.
Towing stability control.
And no doubt heaps more.

The VF has all of the above.

You really notice the difference when you jump out of the VE, and straight
into the VF.
I know the VF is new, and the VE has done 50000 km's, but the VF is just so more refined, more polished if that makes sense.
The clutch feels so much lighter, the gear change better, the seats better, just the whole car feels "tighter".

The cook looking over my shoulder reading what I'm writing just commented that the VF looks like a "bull nosed frog" and isn't half the car the sedan is. So here is two totally contrasting opinions........

You are officially the best expert on this entire forum because you actually OWN BOTH cars right now.:)

I wonder how much the difference in your perception can be attributed to the miles and age of your 2012.

Regardless, all of the items you listed I do NOT want and I resent being forced to pay for them if I want to buy a 2014 SS Sedan.

Good luck with both cars. :)

As often repeated, and known to all, the glasshouse, doors & drivetrain are the only parts that remain the same. You have been provided with copious amounts of evidence that everything else has been dramatically changed. You have heard people who have driven both the VE & VF state they are light years apart. Yet you irrationally reject it all while clinging pathetically to your long discredited fantasies.
You have not seen or driven the car yet you claim greater knowledge than those who have.
This goes way beyond stupidity.

I've got the whole weekend planned from the second I get home Saturday till final flag Sunday.

Go HRT, I Bleed Red it's a Holden thing :)
I so much want to do that too but my band has a gig - on Stradbroke Island. A ferry across, stay overnight and back on the first ferry on Sunday.
I plan to record the lot and start watching Saturday on Sunday. It's going to be a long day...and night.

HRT have really lifted their game in recent times. I'll be surprised if they are not on the podium, provided they can swat the bluebloods!

I got 2, free, 4 day passes including paddock pass given to me from one of the parts reps that come to work. Paddock pass lets you into the pits.

Included with the tickets was 2 laps in one of the "V8 ute's" on Saturday morning.
No where near as good as a V8 supercar, but awesome nonetheless......

I cant make it to the race this year, busy working on another project, but I'm now my younger brothers newest hero....hope he enjoy's it as much as I would have.........

I'd do two laps around the mountain in a shopping trolley if I could. Was up there in Feb for the 12 hour Race for the first time.
There is just something about driving down that main entrance with the massive sign across the road.
Awww Yeah tingle every time :bowing:, Then there is ridin around the track. I hope to race there in a couple of years in a support category at the 12 hour once my IP car is ready and dialed in

welcome to the forum I love your reviews they are down to earth and they way they should be..
Thanks mate.

I try to keep it a little more realistic. There are a lot of reviewers around keen to create some controversy particularly around local manufacturers. I'm not about restoring the balance or anything like that. I just call it how I see it. My job doesn't depend on me generating page hits or likes.

Ferk, did I just say I try to keep it real?
