Last year I asked people about the shifter here: https://www.ssforums.com/threads/qu...n-about-mgw-shifter-feel-compared-to-stock.199456/?post_id=3676055#post-3676055
Everyone's descriptions and advice was spot on, so thank you.

I bought my Retro knob MGW short shifter last fall and finally got around to installing it this past May. The install was straight forward but also a bit of a PITA since my hands were just too fat to squeeze into the transmission tunnel. It took me between 5-6h wheels up to wheels down, including cleanup. The threads on here and the MGW install video were very helpful.

I've put about 6k miles on the shifter since then and love it, my only regret is not replacing it as soon as I got the car. This shifter definitely requires a bit more effort than stock to move over going into 1st or reverse for example. That took me a week or so to get used to, now I don't notice unless I had just gotten out of another manual car and back into mine. Otherwise the shift action is so much more direct, it matches the character of this car so much better. I threw on a heavier shift knob as well.

Looks great, glad to hear you are happy with the results. I did the swap about 2 years ago as well. Going with the Monster Triple Disc in tandem with the MGW short throw flat stick in my 2015. The driving experience is night and day. Especially for those with higher HP this is a must have upgrade.

oh man! I just put a monster triple in, and didn't realize this would have been the perfect opportunity to improve the shifter as well...

This may be my next project!

I see the web page doesn't list out the SS shifter explicitly, do you just select the Camaro part number? Or is it a special order /ask them in an email which one to purchase?

I haven’t touched this yet. In my GXP I put an ultra notchy shirt throw hurst and it has what I’d call an almost uncomfortable feel now as I don’t care for the style.

I like the look still but that’s about it.

Plan is to eventually do an MGW if I don’t sell the car next year for a blackwing or a higher end classic.

My S197 Mustang had a Hurst in it when I bought it. Miserable... nothing like the Hursts we ran on Muncies back in the day. Swapped it out for an MGW. No comparison. Wonderful shift action, and amazing craftsmanship.

The stock SS shifter isn't nearly as bad as that Hurst was, but I'll likely be making the MGW upgrade in the near future.

For me, personally, there are a few aspects that bring it together. Most importantly, the solid/sure shifts. It's basically like you are shifting on a 'rail' and you have to try quite hard to miss a shift or go into the wrong gear somehow. This doesn't sound like much from a big picture view, but when you're working with 800+hp there can be quite a lot of G force in the vehicle which can lead to misshandling shifts, especially with stock mechanisms. The looks are a huge upgrade, not only getting rid of the ugly/blinding chrome but the overall look as well. I also like the bigger "old school" knob on the MGW. Beyond those easy points, the main plus is the performance. Short throw means quicker shifts, more power to the ground, etc.

When I purchased mine it was before they made any adjustments for the SS. It is a 5th gen Camaro offering, but without the forward adjustment seen in @Kyle4433 's pic. It did move my shift knob back some, but after a day or two I no longer noticed.

If I was to do only one modification to a manual SS, this would be the one.

Went with the MGW on my G8 GXP along with a monster twin disc. Using the stock shift knob and a new redline shift boot for now. Ordered a second shift handle with a threaded end in case I want to change to a different shift knob in the future.
