Not sure if this has been covered here but...

The SS Honks at me when I shut the car door in my garage. For example I was working on my radar detector mount with the key fob in my pocket and the start button pushed once (car not started). I assume this is the "accessory" mode. Every time I shut the door the car blares a "Honk-Honk". I assume it is reminding me that I am walking away with the ignition "on".

I consulted the manual but did not see an explanation of the car locking and security systems. Does anyone here have a resource describing how to turn off this feature?

This is especially important because I can no longer sneak out into the garage in the middle of the night to sit in the car making "vrooming" noises without my family finding out

It's letting you know the car is on but the key is leaving the area of the sensors. Take the key out of your pocket and put it in the cup holder and it won't honk until you turn the car off and close the doors (to let you know the key is in the car still). It's a nice feature just have to know how to get around it. I put my key in the key a lot when I am working with the car on and getting in and out of the car a lot.

Thanks

You're right... and it (of course) makes sense. I had not really thought about the fact that with the key fob on your pocket and the ignition "on" it makes sense to alert you as you walk away from the car. The whole keyless entry thing is going to take a little getting used to.

From the my link you can set it not to honk or blink lights. If you set it up to auto lock it warns you if fob is about to be locked in car.

It's going to take me a while of fiddling with all the setting and see what they actually do since the owner's manual is so poor after I get my car.

The owner's manual says:

Passive Locking
This feature will lock the vehicle several seconds after all doors are closed, if the vehicle is off and at least one RKE transmitter has been removed from the interior or none remain in the interior.

So I guess it warns you? and doesn't lock the driver's door? ...

Correct. I have this enabled, makes for a fast exit at work with my hands full.

Here is a simple test put one fob in house go out to car get in start car shut off leave fob on console get out and close door walk away give it about minute see if it honks three times if it does watch it lock the fob in the car. That's how auto lock works two beeps it going to or is locking three means you better grab the door and get your fob or you are walking home. My wife carry's her fob and I lock her in so much for manual.

Or time to take out your OnStar app to unlock the door :)

So can I stop at the coffee shop, put the car in park, get out with the fob in my pocket with the car still running, walk in and get a cup of coffee, then return to a (still running) car?

And what happens if someone jumps into to the unattended car and tries to drive off?

Yes you can do this. I do it all the time :) it would act like the auto start, do nothing. I do lock the door ;)

My car honks while I'm still in the car! For example when I stop at a gas station and turn it off, it honks before I even touch the door handle. Or when I park it in my garage. But only sometimes.
Sometimes it does not honk at all when I park it and let it idle while getting out and getting the mail with the key in my pocket.

Revisit setup and check your settings for leaving keys and such in car.

The car will honk if:

A.) You leave your keyfob while it's still running and there is nobody in the front seats.

B.) You turn your car OFF and leave the keyfob inside and nobody is in the front seats.

Also, left the car running, got out with my keyfob, and told my wife to "steal" it. She got in while I still had the fob in my pocket, and drove off and the car didn't do anything different.
To be clear, the keyless entry is NOT an anti-theft feature, just a luxurious convenience. So as always, be cautious.

Hey ChevySS, How close to the car were you with the fob when your wife 'stole the car'????

Our Regal didn't let the gear shift move unless the key was in the car. It also honked only if the car was not running and the key was left in the car and door closed.

Well here's how the leave running while getting your mail works:

Set to auto lock with delay and lockout protection on.
Get out of car with it running and fob in your pocket.
Get 3-5 feet away it honks to remind you you forgot to turn car off BUT DOES NOT AUTOLOCK!
Take fob out of pocket hit lock button and it locks all doors.
Go in PO get mail knowing someone cannot steal car.
