Hope to live long enough to have my SS delivered. No idea when. Ordered in Sept. (Black with sun roof and spare). Living in Montana I will need all season tires. Have seen snow in late May and early Sept. Has anyone had experience with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season Ultra High Performance Tires. They are made in the right sizes. Thanks!

I am running General G-Max high performance all season tires on mine. In my opinion seeing as you live in Montana you should be thinking about real snow tires. Blizaaks or their equivalent. If you have a 4 wheel drive for bad weather then maybe the all seasons will do otherwise I would say snow tires.

Here in Ohio even good all season tires are barely adequate.

If it was me, Continental DWS or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3

Price - General is lowest

Reputation - you get what you pay for, Michelin is most expensive and usually provides best ride & noise characteristics, but not always true

Search on Tire Rack by vehicle and eliminate all choices but UHP All Season, they list 5 brands (correct sizes in that category that they sell):

Bridgestone
Continental
General
Goodyear
Michelin

All have W or Y speed rating, and lowest UTQG rating is 400(wear) A(traction) A(temp tolerance) - most of the tires identified rate higher in all categories

Currently, Bridgestone & Goodyear have rebates in play, too.

I have Continental DWS rubber on all of my cars, I really like them. Decent wet and light snow traction. Haven't decided if I change to an all-season or not on the SS.

I just put a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 on my SS and so far I'm very happy with them. They're more quiet and comfortable than the stock Potenzas and so far have shown nice grip in the 30-50 degree range here in NY, where the Potenzas were marginal below 40 on dry and struggled on my icy, inclined driveway before it melted. I've also known the Conti DWS to be very good all season tires and I believe the Goodyears fit right in there with them. Check out Tire Rack, they have a comparison of these 3 all season tires as well as the Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS. It's what lead me to give the Michelins a try for the SS.

Im not an "all season" guy, but Ive seen that the DWS get great reviews - especially for the price and wear rating. I'd probably buy them sight unseen.

I have DW's on my current DD and they are pretty darn good.

I have Continental Extreme Contact DWS Tires on my Camaro SS. They are great tires for all conditions. I do not live in snow country so I cannot speak to that but the in cold temps and rain they've been great. I have been considering changing the Bridgestones out for the same tires on our new SS. I purchased them from Tire Rack.

Kumho Ecsta Platinum LX Great all season tire. 60,000 tread life warranty is unheard of.
Are you commenting based on specs/price, or from personal experience?

The one thing we all tend to do is trust manufacturer data or comments posted by others. They may seem really good when new, but what happens after 6 months or 10K miles? I had a set of these on another SS several years ago, and unless they have been improved, I have to say that after a period of time they became quite noisy. Replaced with Michelins and what a relief--I would have sworn I had a wheel bearing problem before changing the tires.

For a car of this stature, my personal approach would be to use the best tires possible, with price as the last consideration.

From personal experience.
I don't need to trust them.
I need to demand new tires if they don't make the mileage, or get a refund from my credit card company.
Michelins are the best tires that money can buy......they also cost the most.
This stature?:laugh:
If price was your last consideration, buy the CTS-V or Vsport.

I've used four Bilzzacks on my G8 since 2009. Trade them each spring. It's a hassle but I go everywhere I want to go on the New England snow with the Blizzacks. They do wear quick though. I got three winters out of the first set. 226,000. Miles right now and apparently the SS is on the boat, or at least can see it

In general, Michelin is the way to go. There's a lot of parameters to simultaneously consider in tire performance, and Michelin does the best job on average. They are
French however, so I understand if that turns someone off :).
Not anymore. Most of the high end brands like Conti, Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Dunlop and Pirelli et al, are all pretty darn good. They each ave their specific strengths and weaknesses within their category. For each scenario - like if you care about tread life and don't care too much about dry performance - best bet is to spend an hour checking out the reviews at tire rack to see what matches up with your needs.

It occurred to me that since the car comes with Bridgestones, the RE 960AS or the G019 Grid from Bridgestone would probably work well.

One thing for sure, you get what you pay for. If you by a cheap Korean or Chinese brand of tire, they usually get noisy or loose most of their attributes as they wear down as someone pointed out above.

In the late 90's at least, Goodyear for example spent 5x on advertising compared to Michelin. Michelin rather spent that money on R&D. Michelin made the Space Shuttle tires. They developed PAX (google it). They developed C3M. The only other tire company Michelin respects from a technical standpoint is Bridgestone. All tire companies are definitely not the same, and are certainly not pumping out equal product. Only from a crude macro level could one conclude parity.
