Getting close to A/c season here in the northeast and came across this today:

See post #42
VF SSV Water leaking ALL over front passenger floor - Page 5

"Recall 14-CS-02 released today for VF/WN. It's an inspection of the A/C drain grommet, and if the foam seal has been damaged (thus causing a water leak), the foam seal is replaced with a rubber one. Also carpet may be replaced if smelly/mouldy.

Letters to be sent out from May for affected vehicles."

There have been a lot of leakers in Australia so we need this checked before the interior needs to be ripped out to replace the carpets if it does leak!

Somewhere on that thread it was mentioned that the issue was resolved on the SS units shipped to the states.
I just reread it and didn't see CHEVROLET SS's mentioned at all. Commodore SS's yes.

04-09-14 Recall 14-CS-02 released today for VF/WN.

2 thoughts:

1- wonder if LHD is same as RHD?

2- Since VE's had the issue also I wonder if the PPV's are having it? If not that would make me be less concerned with checking the carpet everytime I use the A/C for the first dozen times or so.

Spent a few minutes and it's pretty much the same as the G8 and the PPV.

PPV bulletin 09-01-39-007 (+B+C) Jan 28-2014

PITA if the drivers side knee airbag has to come out to get the side trim off the console! I just looked at the G8 couldn't get the updated PPV bulletin.

The AU commodore has a knee on the drivers (right side) but not the left (our drivers side ... we have them on both sides not just one!) and the drain is accessed on our drivers side.

a/c water leak testing

Yesterday was the first day here that a good test of the A/C could be accomplished.

Remember the "leak" a lot of guys in Australia are having isn't really the tube leaking; it is an improperly installed drain tube into a foam 'ring' that blocks off the drain tube allowing the condensate to fill up then overflow the evaporator box flooding the drivers front and back footwells.

So being simple minded starting the test at event one ...

Outside 75 degrees at 11am with 60% relative humidity.
Start car set a/c to "LO" fan 4.
Within 2-3 minutes condensate starts pouring out; and I mean a LOT.
Location: look at driver's fender vent to door jam line. Bend down. Look for the river just to the driver's side of the vehicle center line.

I let it run for about 2-3 more minutes and easily a pint or more accumulated on the ground. Not just dripping but almost a constant flow of water.

I didn't bother to check the carpets because it's basically the same as the G8 drain. If the tube is blocked it fills up then overflows the evaporator box, runs under the carpet by the driver's side of the transmission tunnel by center stack, first flooding the underlayment then soaking thru the carpet forming the standing water on the top of the carpet usually first noticeable in the rear footwell.

So I'd say if you got good flow you are fine, if not pay attention to the carpet especially by the go pedal and the driver's rear footwell where it fills up!

My AC started not blowing cold on and off this week. Took it in today and David just messaged me that it needs a new compressor that won't be in until tomorrow.

Chevy SS a/c leak

Purchased SS in April. It has been in the dealership for 3 weeks. A/c leaked on drivers side, soaked front and rear carpet. Dealership parked car outside, with windows up in Louisiana heat. Needless to say, when I hadn't heard from them, I went to check on it. Carpet has soured, is still wet, trunk and headliner now smell soured. Needless to say, I'm not happy. As of today, it still hasn't been repaired. Anyone have any advice?

Dang, so sorry to hear about your issue Causeydebbie, but welcome to the forum anyway! I'm sure you have now found what the issue probably is, it's too bad the dealership did not take the appropriate action to resolve this in a timely manner. As mentioned, please contact Chevrolet Customer Care on this site and see what they suggest.

I have removed my SS from the dealership today and placed it in another dealership. I have also filed a complaint with GM. As of today, the original dealership had still done nothing to address the water inside the vehicle or the sour smell.
Please get with Chevrolet customer care on here via private message as Laura requested in her post.

They will help you.

Took my car in for oil change and a few other things Saturday. They said there was a customer satisfaction bulletin to inspect an HVAC line. Inspected and judged ok.

Was this a recall, or a bulletin? I took my car in this morning and he said that one didn't come up under my VIN. I had it on the list to inspect that (no water yet) just so I didn't end up having an issue if it was preventable.

**Editing that he said he couldn't inspect it without that recall.

Not a recall as such, but can't imagine why a dealer wouldn't be willing to extend his hand on such a simple check.
