The Northern territory have ended their trial with a 100 km/h limit which then moved to a 130 limit, they have now returned to an open limit highway, no ticket for speeding unless you are not in control of your vehicle.
Results have proven no limit was safer then having a limit.
Just don't go off dreaming about autobahn conditions,

Well it is a known fact that your mind actually becomes more alert the faster you go. sitting at 100 or 110 you become complacent for the most part, whilst still fast it isn't stimulating the mind and the drone of the car can become hypnotic.
I definitely don't advocate being reckless but I think most normal people would use common sense and choose a speed that they feel comfortable at.

I bet the speed at which the car is comfortable will dictate the speed not quite as much as the driver.

If you got a long way to go, certain cars need constant prodding to move at faster speeds, I don't think anyone is going to make specific constant effort to go faster if there is no one else around. At least that's generally how I keep my speed unless a play date presents it self.

I know in my case, my comfort zone is much slower than my car's is. My reactions are much slower than they were 20 years a go, so I'm good for the 90-120mph where my car would be in the 120-170mph range ...

130 kmh vs big kangaroo or a 15' python stretched across the road would be ugly!!
Doing 60 km's and a big red roo jumping out into you is really bad, so hitting a roo at over 100 km/h and you're pretty well screwed.
I think the locals up there have grown up doing fast speeds, it's only when tourists turn up going silly that things can go pear shape really quick...
Personally I have never hit a roo, but my neighbour has hit 2 this year.
Still, it would be fun to do it just once.....(go flat out, not hit a roo)

My mate hit a Roo a few years back near Wagga and totalled the front end of his Aurion rental car. It still drove (Rental cars are good like that :D ) but man did it do some damage.
Conversely I cleaned one up in my Truck not one bit of damage. There was a lot to clean off later though it went straight under my tyres and left bits everywhere. My airtanks exhaust, batteries and between the rear dual wheels was a lot of Kangaroo.
