I emptied my trunk including spare before going to track yesterday. I was unaware that the spare we paid $500.00 for is a temporary. There is a decal on the rim that says "for temporary use only" . I had hoped for $500.00 it was a real tire!!!!

I'll go look, I'm pretty sure it is listed as Temporary since it has no center cap and probably no TPMS sensor installed. The have to label them so they don't get mixed up with the wheels for production. I think I remember it was the same tire we already have on the front. If what you saw was indeed a sticker it was for sorting purposes I'm sure.

You mean it is not the same as the OEM rim and tire? I thought it was.

It is 100% the same as the Front wheels minus the center cap. I just went and confirmed. The same Bridgestone Potenza tire and all.

It is a front wheel, with a front size & spec tire.

From owner's manual, page 10-68

Full-Size Spare Tire
If this vehicle came with a full-size
spare tire, it was fully inflated when
new, however, it can lose air over
time. Check the inflation pressure
regularly. See Tire Pressure on
page 10-41 and Vehicle Load Limits
on page 9-10 for information
regarding proper tire inflation and
loading the vehicle. For instructions
on how to remove, install, or store a
spare tire, see Tire Changing on
page 10-63.
After installing the spare tire on the
vehicle, stop as soon as possible
and check that the spare is correctly
inflated. The spare tire is made to
perform well at speeds up to
112 km/h (70 mph) at the
recommended inflation pressure, so
you can finish your trip.

The full-size spare includes a TPMS
sensor.
The TPMS will not monitor
or display the spare tire air pressure
until the tire/wheel is installed at one
of the four tire/wheel positions on
the vehicle and matched to the new
position. See Tire Pressure Monitor
Operation on page 10-43 for
information about matching the
spare tire to the TPMS.
Have the damaged or flat road tire
repaired or replaced and installed
back onto the vehicle as soon as
possible so the spare tire will be
available in case it is needed again.
Do not mix tires and wheels of
different sizes, because they will not
fit. Keep the spare tire and its wheel
together

Wasn't clear from the post as original full size spare also has the misleading temporary use only sticker on it, but if his doesn't match the photo above he should talk to the dealer.

No Z51 Vette I DO have the same wheel as on the car but the sticker "temp only" threw me off. What are the colored stripes around the tire represent?? I thought it was a different tire, I need to be more observant I think!

First a pic or confirmation that it is NOT a front wheel with a RE50A mounted would be helpful.

The Spare as installed is a factory front wheel. tire and TPM balanced.

Yes Virginia there is a little sticker on the wheel that says "for temporary use only".

That is because if you put it on the rear you have 2 mismatched tires ... huge width and small diameter variance and the subsequent handling, stabilitrack and traction control issues as well as the issue that the limited slip rear cones ain't gonna like even the minuscule diameter difference over time.

It's a $350 tire on a $400 forged wheel. The tire that will wear out first (if you don't turn the rears into smoke) will be the passenger front. The sidewalls start to fail due to short right turns. So when it does the spare will be the replacement. Another point is the front and rear are the same diameter. Different aspect ratio. (35 vs 40). The diameters need to be the same or the ABS gets confused.

you might have to use the spare sooner than later, I just discovered a bubble on the sidewall of my front left tire, have an approximate idea of how it happened but I didn't realize these tires were so gentle...argh

Make that $995 plus $50 core list and $597 plus $50 core dealer cost forged wheel then add TPM and center cap.

Front overall diameter 26.7 inches 778 revolutions per mile.
Rear overall diameter 26.6 inches 783 revolutions per mile.

I'm a stickler for detail. Sorry it's genetic.
