I just got an email from Autoweek saying in addition to all the other enhancements that the 2015 SS will come with rear Brembos.

Bigger rotors in the rear vs the front is not unusual when the rear rotors house a drum parking brake. Also, for the 2015-17 models, the rear brakes are how the car does torque vectoring, so the rotors need to be larger for the larger thermo loads encountered when using that function. Come to think of it, torque vectoring may be why the 15-17 models have a different ABS pump/controller than the 2014 model.

Ok I'll clarify phone post my bad.

The matching calipers are a nice visual touch, but I would not do the swap from 14 model to the 15-17 brembos personally. I just recently powdercoated all my calipers a metallic orange flake on a the matching comment.

Main reason its just a visual improvement, there is very little to be gained from these imo, and the larger diameter rear rotor cuts down your wheel options even further. (I am mainly referring to a drag setup with that last point)

I currently have the rear brembos as I have a 2015, and wont get rid of them so I can run a 17 maybe even down to 16 or 15 inch wheel unless I do some serious rear end fabrication.

Unrelated gripe on the rear brakes in general: The **** window switch style parking brake engagement is a horrible design and a pain in the ass. That should have been a tried and true traditional mechanical lever with cable style design.

Now the comment on drums; maybe I guess but normally its the hat of the rotor that is extended out not the diameter of the rotor that increases. These drum brakes are not setup. I do see large rear rotors when they have a 2nd'ry small brake caliper on exotic cars and what not.

And the coment on tq vectoring: yeah thats not going to do anything substantial on brake wear. I have gone through 3 sets of front pads and barely went through a set on the rear. They do help with stability control, abs, and other keep the vehicle going straight systems.

I do wonder if they engage when you lift the inside rear wheel to keep your diff from unlocking, cause I dont believe we have any preload set on the factory diff. Would be interesting to hear if someone knew for sure, I havent put a gopro on the rear wheels on a trackday so far.

Better......

but it still leaves us wondering why Camaro & CTS-V had 365mm rear rotors, without torque vectoring....it's not vehicle weight, as the difference in the 3 cars is not enough to really matter--if the big brakes were justifiable for the earlier cars, then the choice for 2014 SS made little sense--except that G8 GXP was the "bogey", albeit 5 years previous, and it had a smaller rear tire than SS.

GM has X # of brembo setups they are under contract for, but also had a performance feature that could be implemented with minimal additional cost; so it came down to a simple $$ decision.

Do I think a bigger rotor is needed just for torque vectoring? No. I do like TV but have only flogged AWD cars that had that feature standard around the track. It helps a lot with an AWD to get the car rotated, normally you tend to plow/understeer with an AWD, without unsettling the car with throttle on/off.

I know it would be a very very very small number of owners, but has anyone with a strange or other non-oem setup noticed any substantially difference in braking performance? For things like TV, brake fade, stopping distance, rear lockup, etc.?

Anyone removed the rear rotor, to get them turned, and thought it was an exceptional pain in the ass?
