and...right on the SS homepage:

2 year / 24,000 mile scheduled maintenance program†.

Chevrolet 2-Year Maintenance covers only scheduled oil and oil filter changes and tire rotations, in accordance to your new vehicle’s recommended maintenance schedule and Oil Life Monitoring system, for up to two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. You can receive a maximum of four total service events. Does not include air filters. Only ACDelco dexos1® oil and ACDelco Oil Filters are eligible. This program cannot be combined with any other GM service offers, and vehicles are only eligible for service in the U.S. and only at participating Chevrolet dealers.

But no tire rotations for us.

8 quarts dexos1® makes for a pricey oil change guys!

oil changes will be pricey, but we got to pay to play, something we have to expect with a car like this. at least its not as bad as owning a German car

Two 5 quart jugs mobil 1 from Wal-Mart at about 25.00 each and filter equal about 60.00 do it yourself change. Use black filter that's on the dry sump motors and you are looking at 7.00 more.

I personally know of 2 instances within the last 6 months where GM has requested oil samples for engine warranty work for dexos1® engines (2011 +) on less than 3yo/36k failures because there was no oil maintenance history in the system. Oil level was full on. The customers had 5000 mile oil changes with receipts one of which was from a Texaco lube center. GM's lab determined the oil was not dexos1® or meeting the dexos1® spec. Warranty claim DENIED. Reviewed by FOM - DENIED.

Legal stuff: Customer has to pay to fix car; in this case the RO is going to be right at $11000. Then the customer's lawyer submits claim to repair shop's garage liability insurance company with warranty denial in writing from GM not the dealer (the hard part) because they installed the WRONG OIL. In a perfect world customer will get reimbursed less wear and tear for miles driven. In an imperfect world you tell it to the Judge.

Yes this is a legitimate reason legally for the claim to be denied!

Straight from the manual:

Caution
Failure to use the recommended engine oil can result in engine damage not covered by the vehicle warranty. Check with your dealer or service provider on whether the oil is approved to the dexos1 specification.

And DIY??? A dead cert denial!

Why risk a $10-15K engine replacement ...

8qts dexos1® @ $5/qt = $40 plus $10 filter plus labor ~ $20 = $70

My hands stay clean; I don't throw my back out; I don't gotta schlep 2 jugs of oil oil somewhere to get rid of it; I get some free Krupp's hot chocolate; regale stories from our youth with my service manager buddy and the shop foreman; still get to watch and 'help' all while maintaining that all important warranty no questions asked.

And ExxonMobil sells more premium product helping my share price and dividends.

For me it's a no brainer.

Edit: But you get the first up to 4 LOF's free anyhow.

I buy my oil and filter dealer charges me about 15.00 to do the job and I don't worry about getting rid of oil. If you buy and oil and filter change at dealer for a z06 you are looking at 100.00 so I save a little buying my own oil and filter.

Valvoline offers multiple options that match or exceed dexos1 SPEC's.
