Tried the perpendicular park assist today while going to Sears to buy a garage door opener. My previous car had the built in home link and I don't know where the old remote might be. It would not work, kept telling me to back into a snow bank and drove right past open spots. Pulled out the manual (yes, last resort), and it said "if it didn't seem to work it may need calibration". To calibrate, it said to drive on winding roads. So I left Sears and drove on winding roads nearby. When I returned to Sears it wanted me to back into a white car, seems it has an affinity to white. I moved on, it then recognized the next open spot, yes really open this time, and did park itself well centered. It took at least twice as long as I would have taken; could have been me getting used to it. I didn't leave the car there though, I didn't want any door dings just yet. Parked out in no man's land. I think I would have liked the built in garage door opener instead. Oh, well, now I have both.

The SS was extensively tested by engineers in Australia for auto parking in snow. Well... it will be tested as soon as they find some that is. Try parking it at the beach in the summer months, it will certainly work better then as its more familiar territory to the engineers. :)

In all seriousness the car was tested in Europe though, as it had ABS and stability control work done over there as part of its cold weather testing, so you would think they would have sorted the parking out over there while they had it.

Most of the software on the SS to be honest, has a bit of a 1.0 feel to it. MyLink seems to struggle with my Aussie accent half the time and I end up in a Jeremy Clarkson state of mind, yelling at my car, while it says pardon, complains about ambient noise, confirms everything over and over or asks me to wait for the beep. Hopefully there will be software updates.
