The end of the rear-drive full-size Australian sedan may be near, but that isn’t stopping Holden from showing off its new VF Commodore. The Australian arm of GM just released a new ad for the new Holden VF Commodore, with a surprise cameo appearance of its American cousin, the 2014 Chevrolet SS.
Holden Commercial 4 300x199 imageThe Holden VF Commodore ad starts off by touting the new V-8-powered rear-drive sedan as the most technologically advanced Australian car ever built. After a look at it in the Australian cityscape, we get to see the Commodore on Holden’s high-speed oval, where the narrator brags that the automaker had put over 3.3 million kilometers on its Commodore test fleet, which “is over 2 million miles if you’re in America.”
As the scene changes to the streets of New York, the ad boasts that the Commodore is in fact in America, sold as the new 2014 Chevrolet SS. As the SS driver points out, there’s now another lucky country that gets the big Aussie sedan.
Like the VF Commodore, the 2014 SS is powered by a 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 that makes 415 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Though a Camaro ZL1-powered Commodore will be sold in Australia, there’s no word on whether we’ll see a more powerful SS in the States. The SS will carry a $44,470 MSRP (plus gas guzzler tax) when it goes on sale later this year.
