OEM CD Player Retrofit

[Thanks in advance for any helpful insights provided. Please keep this thread on the retrofit topic and not editorialize pro vs con on CDs.]

Hoping someone on the forum might have done this already. Looking to retrofit a factory/OEM CD player and auxiliary port from a 2014-2015 SS into a 2017:

1. Will a 2014-2015 SS CD player work in a 2017?

2. Does it HAVE to be from a SS? Or will one from a 2014-2015 Caprice PPV work? Are there other Chevy models which will also work? I heard one from a Volt will work (what years)?

3. Which items do I need to obtain from the donor SS? Obviously the actual silver box with the CD player and the climate control with the trim allowing for insertion of the CDs, but is there anything else?

4. Where is the auxiliary port located? Is it on the main screen assembly or on the climate control assembly? (I can’t seem to locate a picture of it.)

5. Do I need to switch the radio display and control key assembly, too?

6. Are there VIN-specific programming issues to get the part(s) to 'unlock' and/or to get them to work together?

Thanks.

I'm assuming the '17 SS does NOT have a CD player because I don't see it. Is it that well hidden?

Correct.

'16 and '17's do NOT have a CD player or AUX plug.

Only the 14 and 15 have a CD player. I have no idea but you might have to switch out the infotainment systems as the 14-15 have all the supporting systems for the CD on them while the 16 and 17's don't.

I use mine a lot, even though I use a thumb drive, too. Thumb drive takes to much to load and weed out the songs you have to skip. A cd is much easier to load just what you want, plus, if you have 3,000+ cd's, just pick a couple to listen to for a time or keep a cd book in the car.

Both of our cars have one.

$10/month for Spotify.... itís so much more convenient. My CDs are collecting dust in the attic. I ripped them all to mp3 like 15-20 years ago, I donít even bother with those anymore.

Dear all:

Please note this is not an editorial thread debating CDs vs other means of music retrieval and playback. I am soliciting technical input regarding the indicated retrofit. While I appreciate everyone has a preferred music medium, let's please keep this thread on topic.

Thanks again in advance.

If you're just wanting the CD player and aren't as concerned with the Aux plug in the center console, you can purchase a silver box (CD-player/radio) along with the necessary dash trim piece with the CD slot and have White (@GTPprix here on the forum) reprogram the box for your VIN if my memory serves. They've changed part numbers so many times on the silver box though that you'd probably need to get with White to know which you need. https://www.whiteautoandmedia.com/

If you're wanting the aux plug, you'll need a harness and the aux plug as detailed in this thread:
